I think it is one of the best TV anime ever made, and I saw it well after I got into watching anime. I was blown away. An amazing confluence of talent had to happen from directing to animation to music, I'm amazed the show got made with such a large budget.
I can't see a spin off getting made today, and if it did I don't think it would do justice to the original and movie

I've been watching anime for twenty years and Bebop's still right up there at the top. Plenty of other shit is worth watching, but we're no longer in an environment that allows for stuff like Bebop. Stuff good in different ways, sure, but I think the industry's been headed down a certain road for a long time. Since someone else got accused of being from /co/, I'll put it in /co/ terms: before Marvel became the juggernaut it is today, it made Blade. Blade is fucking great and there hasn't been a superhero movie quite like it since (no, not even the sequels). There are still great superhero movies, but we're no longer in an environment where someone would make something like Blade. Similarly, we still get good anime every year or every other year, but we don't get anything as unique as Bebop anymore.

That entire analogy is lost on me because I have no idea what Blade is, but the idea that we can't have "unique" anime anymore seems stupid. We had Yuri Kuma earlier this year, which is pretty unique. We've had several Watanabe shows in the last few years, and while the writing has been spotty, his direction and tone hasn't fallen apart or anything. No, we aren't likely to get much space noir, because the non-mecha space genre has largely died, but claiming Bebop was unique in some way that nothing today can be is a big claim.

I'll grant it could be Bebop just made that big of an impact on me when I watched it--I'd been watching stuff since channel 58 showed Japanimation at midnight on Fridays, but I'd never seen anything like Bebop, and it was right as I started buying my own anime and following more and more anime/manga.
But stuff...blurs together to me now. Moe seems to be everywhere, everything's based on a light novel or VN, etc...it could just be me being a nostalgiafag, thinking we can't make stuff like Bebop anymore.

Either which includes both Faye and Jet having more bounty adventures, or focusing on completely new characters.I can imagine a guy/girl who wants to be a bounty hunter just like the legendary Spike Spiegel. They get a ship and he/she trys to recruit people for a bounty hunter team. Maybe that person finds a grown up Ed and manages to get her to come with them. Though Jet and Faye would be too old at this point to tag along.
