What's killed them was their decision to start adapting licenses they own under their shitty publishing company.
"Killed" is all relative here though as in going from pulling in 20-40k+ sales figures to like 5-10k range with their newer shitty sources, with Free being the only exception to their new normal. However, the fact that they own the source licenses for most of their shows lately makes it so that even a mild success from one will probably generates a lot of money from all the related merchandise; if it wasn't a successful strategy for them then why would they keep doing it? I bet Phantom World will probably suck shit but they will still make money off of it due to getting all the profits from merchandise under the license.
