Why are school children still being exposed to garbage like Romeo and Juliet instead of masterpieces like Toradora?
The love story in Romeo and Juliet is romance at its most superficial and one-dimensional. There's no substance or depth or chemistry in the interactions between the two main characters. They exchange cliche love dialogue which mostly consists of them adoring each other's good looks.The basis for the attraction Romeo has to Juliet is that she's a generically handsome and polite young girl. Yet, it is implied that there is a deeper emotional connection between the two that has never been established because they barely even know each other.
Toradora, on the other hand, is the greatest love story ever told. I can't think of any other work of fiction in which two lovers fit together as well as Taiga and Ryuuji. The flaws of one character are perfectly complemented by the strengths of the other. Ryuujifs practicality and low-key attitude is the perfect yin to Taigafs abrasive, loud, and fiercely liberal spiritfs yang. Each finds comfort in the other as well, as Ryuujifs paternal instincts being a support to Taiga, whofs family life is nonexistent, and her consequences-be-damned attitude liberates Ryuuji from the pressure of having to always act so mature.
I think that the only reason why garbage like Romeo and Juliet is still regarded with such reverence is because of historic, rather than artistic, reasons. It was highly influential in the past. Therefore, it must be great art. It certainly was influential, but it's still a superficial love story which Shakespeare actually stole from people like William Painter and Arthur Brooke.

I dropped Toradora on the second to last episode. Them eloping was stupid.
Also the animation quality took a massive nose dive. Like when the main girl who's name I forgot got into that fight with the class president. Holy shit what a an utter trainwreck the animation was. They should run out the guy who was in charge of that scene from the industry for thinking that's acceptable.

it would have been sad if Taiga wasn't pretty much guaranteed to get with Ryuuji anyway, so I just felt moved.
If, say, Minori and Ryuuji got together at the dance because of Taiga's nudging. We see them look into each others eyes and have their little moment, finally.
Then we switch back to Taiga, and she smiles and hugs the scarf. Tears start to well from nowhere and the scene plays out as normal, she runs into the street screaming his name and falls to her knees. That would have been heartbreaking.
Buuut no, Minori was a total bro and Taiga got what she wanted, so I can't feel bad for her.

Taiga was also a bro, she acted in both Ryuuji's and Minori's interest and wanted both them to be happy. Venting off your emotions is not a bad/selfish thing, considering the fact that she did support them until the very end.
Also, I never said you should be sorry for her, I said the episode hit really close to home and it actually made me forget how edgy I am for a moment and shed a tear. But that's just me.

I don`t know if "heartbreaking" has to do with you having to feel bad about Taiga. I cried like a bitch watching not because of that, but because it was touching to see her feelings towards Ryuuji, we usually get rekt when we act based to a girl, it was refreshing to see it working in there.

I left high school 4 years ago with good grades but for some reason I related a lot to the MC. Nagisa's death got me big cause I more or less marathoned Clannad and After Story so I got to see the whole development.
