As a character, Guts can only regress back into, basically, something we've already seen via the Lost Children and Conviction arcs, probably through the death of Isidro (god pray), Shierke, Farny, and the rest, maybe even Cas.
There's no "forward" for him to go into without that; he's already let go of Griffith.

Also all the subtle hits from Gaiserics story point towards Griffiths city being sacrificed. I still believe Gaiseric was the last reborn god hand which explains his age/story and desire for revenge. Also the Gaiseric story hints at 4 angels instead of 5 descending which means there is possibility one was reborn aka Gaiseric at the time. Griffith is just the next in the cycle of selfish fucks to be exploited by the IoE.
