Currently? I don't know about best, and I haven't watched everything they've put out, but Death Parade and Ore Monogatari were both among the best of their season, and memes aside One-Punch Man is legitimately enjoyable.

Yeah, I don't think you understand what kind of work Madhouse does. It's not like Kyoani or Gainax where you have this tight knit group of creators all working together on stuff with people rubbing off on each other as they work on stuff. Madhouse is basically just a pile of animators that work on stuff that a number of different creative teams that move in and out want to make. That's why they don't have a unique style or consistent quality. The creative team is what matters most and it's completely different depending on the show.

You're just listing notable people who worked on shows with Madhouse, though. Except maybe for Kon, none of those were really being given some unusual chance to prove themselves. Yuasa and especially the ABe/Konaka team had already shown what they could do, and Kawajiri's not even a freelancer, he's their own employee who I assume worked for them for years and then got to direct some stuff, the way it usually works.
2011 Hunter x Hunter and the new Ippo series had some really bad animation.
