Saitama is a completely indestructible and powerful hero. There has yet to be any real challenge that he can't overcome. It's like how theoretically Superman can destroy anything and everything in the DC Universe (Outside of magic) yet he is kept in check because of Enemies with plot armor to make fights interesting. That's not the case with Saitama, he is what it would be like if the writer didn't limit his strength in a fight.

OPM is more subversive of manga than it is capeshit. While there certainly is Western capeshit with a similar vibe to OPM in terms of the humor and the action and the plot, OPM is gonna appeal to people in ways that Whedon type stuff might not- because it is indeed a shonen/seinen manga/anime, which unlike Western capeshit tends to have real-feeling complex and brutal battles rather than plot/generic fighting/plot, and a type of story progression that actually respects the art of narrative (or tries to tell a genuine story of someone rising to a high point as a hero) rather than just churning out pages of alternative reality drivel, thereby OPM is extremely good because it does the things that battle manga do best, but in a very mocking way that highlights some of the tedious and silly elements of battle manga, which really only exist actually because of the good traits that capefag comics and tv shows don't really have- stuff that's really good but also tends to suck, like villains that are introduced early on and don't get defeated for 400 chapters, long stretches of training, ultra cool power level reveals, and settings that get their narrative potential quite exhausted. So therefore, what makes OPM different from an equally ridiculous-but-still-kinda-serious capeshit comic or show is that it's inspired by different stuff and makes fun of different stuff, even if on-paper it seems rather similar to the shit you are referring to. Perhaps just being an anime fan does make OPM more enjoyable and we should give more credit to other comics and shows like it, but OPM is a response to a medium with a different essence (or rather, just how young-people's action cartoons and comics get done in Japan), so it's inherently not the same product as your favorite clever funny capeshit extravaganza. Perhaps we can get Venn Diagramming and sort this out. How about Super Hero Squad Show for that?
