The OVAs were great, but how was the TV series? There seem to be mixed feelings about it.

They completely nerf Yomi in the TV series. Both in power and personality. It kinda ruined the series for me because, while I do really like the sisters, I fucking love ed Yomi in the OVAs. So I was waiting for the big moment when she returns in the TV series and, guh... She's just a shadow of who she was.
Look, I know they wanted the TV series to focus on the sisters, but it's like the only way they could figure out how to make the sisters shine was to dull everyone else.

The only complaint I have about the TV series is that it aired after the OVA was released, so everyone makes garbage comparisons with a shorter, flashier work.
This shit was so fucking good. Watched it at a con a million years ago on a lark. I loved that it didn't bother trying to explain any powers or abilities; just let all the characters do their crazy shit. Walked out and immediately bought the OST in the dealer's room. Good fuckin times. Good memories.

OVA was done by DEEN and MAN they had a lot of good animators, money, and staff on board.
They last time they put this much effort was the Kenshin OVAs

Honestly, I really liked the TV series. It has very nice slice-of-life episodes combined with interesting overreaching plot. The sisters have fun chemistry going between them and Nenene falls nicely into the group. The directing is very gentle. It has very good soundtrack. The script was written by the same guy who wrote the original R.O.D. books.

ROD TV is weird.
It's like it's two completely different shows joined together.
First half is school + spy type antics. Then there's a really random single piece of nudity that happens for no reason and after that half the cast disappears and the toone of the series completely changes.

If I remember we still have the final light novel to go which has been on hold for about ten years if I believe. I'd really like those to be animated or more R.O.D material, I think they could make a cool OVA series like Hellsing Ultimate.
