The year is 2018 and Kyoani is the best once again. They learned to adapt better material after Violet Ever Garden. Yamada has been directing a movie every other year since Koe No Katachi thanks to its success. Ishihara was forced to commit seppuku after Phantom World bombed so season 2 of Euphonium turned out a masterpiece. Kyoani found a way!

Some single episodes are very well done thanks to the respective episode directors/storyboarders but since the director was both a newcomer and a rabid fujoshi the characterization and story composition suffered from a lot of her decisions.
Cast is likeable, their interactions are entertaining, the water animation looks fantastic and the OST is incredibly good though so if you like KyoAni I'd say try a few episodes to see if it's for you.

Just finished Hibikek a few minutes ago, had a slow first couple episodes for me but wrapped up surprisingly well. Can't wait for the second season now.It made me wish I did band in high school. I'm very aware that it wasn't an accurate portrayal of the real thing (my best friend was in it and always told me about the silly shit that went on) but I'm sure it still would've been fun.

Phantom World is a LN, correct? On Wikipedia it repeatedly describes it simply as a novel, as if intentionally trying to make it out to be more than an anime story without an anime (yet.) I'm dissapointed they're barely marketing Phantom World at all. This is why their sales have been low recently, word of mouth can only do so much and only if the show is actually pretty good. They may have a loyal following but the bigger the viewership, the bigger the number of people willing to buy a show. I doubt the loyal fans can spread the word as much as good marketing.
