Smile is a prettier, goofier, slapstick, more platonic and episodic Yes5 with the relative importance of the Pink and her teammates reversed. They're similar on a lot of points, but all these tonal notes are pretty different, yeah.
It was a lot less like super sentai in theme, fighting and stock footage than Yes5, but ended up with these very gimmicky character episodes that cribbed from ideas that had been used all over the franchise, but they definitely weren't all worse than the original implementations.
Oh, and the suffering. Yes5 had sadness, but Smile loved suffering for some strange reason.

I would have preferred the "token ultimate end-boss boss" didn't exist and Mirage be the last fight of the season.
Or at the very least, find a way to merge Red and Mirage's fight. Like have blue fight red while Megumi fought Mirage.
That's just one out of a LOT of things I would change about HaCha. \
You can't claim that it's wrong to have plot threads dangling everywhere in the same series that left plot threads dangling everywhere. Especially about Red, his origin, Mirage, Thousands of girls being imprisoned for years, Hime's parents which got two frames of animation out of the whole season, The Embassy thing, the Phantom thing.
I would have preferred Blue getting off scot-free as opposed to Phantom getting off scot-free, which is what happened.

Most of those were answered as much as they needed to be. Red was a different god who got jealous, it's not like they're going to explain where god came from. They showed Mirage and Blue fighting him in a flashback and her falling to evil around that time to be locked away. The girls were imprisoned, what else do you want? Them to release a huge list of all the names of Precure to the public? Hime's parents were freed, had their reunion (just because it's not shown doesn't mean it didn't happen), and went back home. The embassy just means that Blue Sky is a real kingdom (alternate theory: Hime was just lying about the embassy part, it's just a regular home). What about Phantom? That was a well foreshadowed twist, if you want to call it that.

Here we go again. every time we talk about HaCha and someone points out the numerous glaring flaws it had, it's always "Well I didn't care about those flaws!"

I felt bad even pointing out that HaCha wasn't a great season because I knew that is exactly what you were going to say.
The Mirage battle was great, the Seiji/Red shit at the end was stupid and unnecessary because it was further bridging the single worst relationship arc in all of Precure. Should have ended three episodes sooner and spent the last three episodes detailing how they were going to finish cleaning up after a worldwide catastrophe.
Nope. Girls were imprisoned for years and we didn't even get to see a reunion for any of them or any explanation of why they were gone. I guess Iona and Marie's parents died or something for all the shits they gave about their missing daughter. Hime's parents could have been cardboard cutouts the whole time. We didn't even get to hear them speak. They didn't even get to say "We've missed you so much Hime!" Nope. Fuck that. Do you even remember that Seiji had a mother that was featured in the show? I barely remembered.
The only relationship that mattered in HaCha was the dogshit that was Megumi's complicated feelings for a married man.
This is the other reason I don't like talking about it. Every time I think about how many plot threads and character arcs they burned for two of the most flaccid characters in a Precure show just makes me regret following it for a full year.
At least you made up some fan theories to justify some of what happened, so go you, I guess.
