The Beerus arc didn't really add anything important, in fact it -cut- some stuff. The only real addition is the whole "SSJ God and Beerus fighting against each other can destroy the universe" parts.

If Goku wanted to train Goten, first of all he'd take him to King Kai's planet and they'd do basic training there, secondly he'd teach him all the old techniques, like kamehameha (goten NEVER used this in the manga) solar flare, destructo disc, kaioken, etc.
