The fact that so many anons still name Umaru as "the greatest or most fun or cutest" anime ever only tells you how far anime still is from becoming a serious art. Anime critics have long recognized that the greatest animes of all times are Kaiji and The Tatami Galaxy, which were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Anons rank the highly controversial Umaru over classical animes which were highly popular in boards around 4chan. Anons are still blinded by commercial success: Umaru sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Comedy anime critics grow up watching a lot of anime of the past, SoL critics grow up watching a lot of SoL anime of the past. Anons are often totally ignorant of the anime of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Umaru did anything worth of being saved.

Old Anon here from the times of Robotech/Oiriginal Saint Seiya. I've seen lots of comedy anime and while Umaru is far from the best (Azumanga and Urusei Yatsura are my favs) is still one of the funniest and less threatening comedy series I've seen that so far focuses mainly on comedy. From what I've heard from the manga it could turn out to shit pretty soon with unecessary drama and more unwanted fanservice. Let's hope that's not the case.
