They try a few projects without Sawano or Kajiura or some big name staffer for a change these past couple seasons, they unsurprisingly doesn't work out and they don't work out so they go crawling right back to using the same overexpose and overhyped composers yet again. Both studios have a tendency to just run them through their own particular filter. A-1 seems to work towards design that will be easier for animators to draw and that look bland and low detail as shit, Kyoani just seems to make everything look even more moe with giant eyes but at least there detailed and I never get the sense they're main goal is just trying to make things easier for themselves. A-1 is also the last animation studio that should be teaching anyone anything. Besides they're pretty much 100% mercenary anyway as far as animators go, the only common link is Aniplex as producer 90+ percent of the time and them usually trying to get some big names at the head of the projects.

Actually that's generally a consistent thing though every so often they give themselves more of a challenge like that Your Lie in April show. Both studios like to play it way to safe though IMO the vast majority of the time and rely on factors other than actually making good well scripted shows in order to turn a profit.
Kyoani sticks to moe and the devoted if dwindling fanbase they built up with LN/VN adaptations in the late 2000's and tends to rely on Ishihara and it's animation team to carry a usually pretty thinly plotted show. A-1 tends to rely on red hot licenses with huge prior fanbases that have a proven tendency to buy anything with the licenses label slapped on it and/or popular external staffers who've worked on other big hits and have their own devoted guaranteed purchase type fanbases they tend to bring from work to work to draw in viewers and buyers.
You can pretty much bet the entire Blu-Ray package for this show is going to revolve around Yuki Kajiura already. Maybe they can include an event ticket or some sort of concert extra to inflate it because otherwise unless it's one of those melodramatic crying anime like Your Lie in April which Japan loves the shit out it's not going to do very well.

What's pretty ridiculous is that they seem to be crossing over the staff for both now. Like what do they think that if they use the director and composer for SAO that a bunch of waifufags are going to tune in and enjoy a plodding gloomy teen angst story that's probably going to be mostly dialogue driven? It's not a real problem, after the first chapters the manga doesn't even tries to mislead. The question wasn't "is the culprit X or Y or Z", but "will the manga introduce a second possible culprit?" Then suddenly the culprit made his major move when everyone was still waiting for a second and less obvious suspect.
I liked it, though. Even if the culprit was obvious his moves, timing and backstory weren't, and the ending of that arc is a fucking intense climax. Personally, I really liked that the author didn't try to forced a less obvious but unnatural and stupid solution just to "surprise" the readers. A recently fully translated manga did that, and it was a fucking shitty idea.
