I do. I have Magic Knight Rayearth on VHS and I plan to get more anime of that era. I especially am looking for Serial Experiments Lain.

It's certainly nostalgic. I enjoy it quite a bit.

>Do you watch old school cell anime on a CRT TV?
No.
>How is it? Comfy?
Don't know.
>>

I know Lain has some DVDs and even blu rays if your CRT is HD. Unless your really into the lo-fi stuff or hate FUNi with a passion, the DVDs are good. My uncle had them and we watched it on a his old CRT. Those things are fucking insanely good at masking the fact it was standard def.

Cell > Digital
It's not even bait, it's a fact.
>>
Didn't the Japanese have some incredible HD TVs back in the 90s?
>>
Go back to your containment general in /vr/, please.

My CRT is SD, sadly. Still, I might get the blu rays regardless.
>>

Cell looks ridiculously good in HD.

I dunno about the Nips but John Carmack coded Quake on a 1920x1080 CRT.
>>
>>134004031
I like the nuances of the colors.
>>
>>134003976
Yes.
A LaserDisc could scale up to 1080i.
>>
>>134004017
Assuming the aspect ratio is OK, blu rays should be decent looking.

Got that screenshot complaing about moe becoming a trend? I think it mentions Toonami, Fatal Fury and Street Fighter 2 in it.

I used to. Now I've got no room for one.

Definitely. Unfortunately, computer monitors are all washed out in terms of colour so a TV is the only way to go with that shit. There was a really good screenshot I saw on foolz of Escaflowne that was primarily some greenish blue colour. Connected my TV for comparision and it was night and day.

Sorry for the wait, my DE randomly decided to crash on me. Anyway, I think it's this one.

No unless I have a raw source.

If you do it through an adapter cable from a pc, then you're getting an encode meant for compression and image quality (or lack of) for the pc, there's nothing to gain from watching it on a tv.
Raw source from back in the day when it was film is quite comfy to be honest, it has a completely broader range of colors and the artifacts will be simply natural to the raw quality (i.e. vhs, laserdisc, dvd, etc.) and not thanks to bad encoding. So no hard colors, filters, etc.
Just compare a true raw source (not a "raw" from internet, unless you have one of those direct raws before the guys were busted in japan) to an encode and you'll understand.

I watch BD rips on a 1080p TV. How else are you going to appreciate the grain?
>>
>>134004798
Grain is fucking ugly though.
>>
>>134004820
Yeah it is, if you're stupid.
>>
I can't hook up an hdmi cable to a CRT TV. So no.
>>
>>134004845
Why would you want to ruin a clear, sharp picture with artifacting?
>>
>>134004896
How can you get a "clear, sharp picture" when the source itself has grain? Most grain removing filters and techniques remove most of the detail on the animation cells.
>>
>>134004896
Grain is literally suppose to be there, you retard.
It's not something you can remove easilywithout fucking up something else in return.
>>
>>134004947
>>134005013
Got any comparisions? I've never seen detail loss, atleast in anime, when high video get DRN'd.

Why the fuck would it be comfy? What the fuck does comfy even mean nowadays?
>>
Generally prefer watching most stuff on my old crt since as far as color goes it btfos even the expensive lcd in the living room.
Still stuck to s-video though. RGB is just too much of hassle to setup.
>>
>>134004947
There is one that doesn't?

Old 480p animes like Initial D and such I watch on a crt. Old stuff looks better on crt and my crt produces much better audio quality then the shitty speakers from my laptop.
>>
>>134005106
Using your laptop is the problem, get a nice TV with a decent sound system.
>>
>>134005095
I was hoping for anime since that tends to still looks good DRN'd. This is really bad though.
>>
>>134005095
TFW they switched the iTunes one for the BD after a while. What the fuck Disney.
