I remember somehow having a VHS as a child with a few episodes, but the sound was completely fucked.
I just recently found my cassettes of Tenchi Universe while rearranging my office. The only Tenchi series worth watching, In my opinion. Had a finished story, some good episodes, two of the three Tenchi movies follow off of it, and the story actually concludes with best girl winning. 10/10
The original OVAs were great but everything was rather... rushed. Like, in one episode they show the girls in a floating onsen. When did they get a floating onsen? How? They didn't have it last episode. Like most of the stuff in the OVA, you just have to roll with it because it seems like half the story was never told except on like fucking radio dramas or some shit. Plus the story never actually goes anywhere. Just sort of mulls around.
Tenchi in Tokyo was absolute shit and nearly killed the franchise. So was GXP.

The Tenchi Muyo OVAs., there are 3 seasons, Toonami aired the first two, and the last episode of the third on the April Fools day. Also in the same canon is Tenchi Muyo GXP, and Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, about Tenchi's little brother.
Toonami also aired Tenchi Universe, which was a tv series in Japan, and Tenchi In Tokyo, the boring one with the mary sue.

That still upsets me to this day. It looks like a great, long show where everything is drawn out. Instead we have the OAV and then the "no the OAV isn't the story I wanted to tell so lets redo it for the TV series" TV series.

Universe and the Movies are their own continuity. The characterization is iffy, but it's still a good show.
Tokyo, Pretty Sammy, and Ai! Tenchi Muyo are all separate and regarded as poor.
The creator, Kajishima, releases doujins of information and stories in the OVA canon. Some of it's background info, some is stuff he couldn't get animated.
There are also novels for GXP that Kajishima wrote after he was disappointed with the way Nabeshin handled it. They trump the anime as canon, but are untranslated.

To us, Petrea Burchard is the quintessential voice of Ryoko. To Petrea Burchard, it was some gig she did in the 90's that a bunch of teenagers really love her for. And that type of thing is flattering, sure, but you can't obligate producers to not recast or actors to reprise their roles until they die.
