Also the strongest fighters in the series are generally male.
All of Nagi's group minus Arika was male. Lifemaker is male. Negi is male, Fate and 2/3rds of the Avvernucus past and present are male.
Using Negi's group isn't a proper representation of the male:female ratio split for the top tier fighters in the series.

My guess is that since Kuro's troubles are still continuing, it'll get revealed that it's all in his head. He's weaker because of his increasingly wavering state of mind. He was already confused before but it's getting worse lately so he's weaker than normal. I bet he'll become even stronger once he accepts becoming full female/full male.
