That one statement about some of the story elements changing has generated so much speculation and sure, you could flirt with the idea of playing Muse straight (as Siren) or make it be a blind shot like Waon/Seika. As I understand it, Waon and Seika's characters are taken from what might've been the two other cures, whose family names would complete the cardinal directions, which could've been done with or without a masked Muse.
In the end, I feel like Muse asthe lost princessand Beat asHummy's fallen friendkeeps the story nice and tight with the connections, gives them good reason to be "adopted" in, and gives the story a good shove forwards at the moments it needs. If they were last-minute changes, they were well woven changes because it feels like this would've been a very natural way to have the whole story go.

Just watched it. I think them making fun of the fat kid makes them feel more like actual friends/classmates. From what I understand of Balala they've been going for like 5 years with the same cast so I don't think it's such a bad thing to have that character dynamic if they're all real familiar with each other. I'm just glad they didn't go with the find legendary warriors to defeat X big bad in order to liberate Y kingdom that precure likes to use to give the MC a henshin device. It's also nice that the queen of the kingdom seems to be her own character, it reminds me of having Mephisto and Aphrodite around during suite.

This. The most mean-spirited thing I can think of that Precure has done is maybe showing the adult Precure fan wanting a girlfriend. And even then the Cures ended up showing compassion for him in the end. I feel bad for the guitar kid in Balala. Do they continue to treat him like shit?
