Just letting you know the average age isn't close to 12 but rather between 18-24.
If you seriously can't sit long enough to handle the exposition then drop the serious. It gets more dialogue heavy as it goes on. I used to be like you when I was younger and more impatient for dialogue and dropped it on episode 12. 3 years later when I got back into the series I loved every moment of it and found it to be refreshing.
Watch two episodes a day and take a break if you seriously can't stomach the Kuze arc.

The movie is Okay at best. Sure, it's a better adaptation of the manga, but it's biggest influence was its visuals and existentialist themes.
SAC on the other hand had a much better plot, even if it was independent of the manga, and more fully realized cyberpunk themes by not just focusing on the hacking and transhumanism, but also the government corruption and intrigue found in most cyberpunk works.

Seriously, read a book sometime. The whole arc is a reference to several militarist coup attempts in the 1930s, as well as novelist Yukio Mishima's 1970 "coup" and subsequent suicide.
I love everything in the GitS universe but it gets tedious when you have all those scenes of characters dumping exposition with almost no animation. Television is a visual medium and handling exposition is a writer's biggest challenge.

2nd Gig just wasn't as good as SAC. It had some high points, but Kuze was nowhere near as interesting as The Laughing Man.
The callbacks to the manga were great, though, as was Batou's fight scene with Kuze.

The movie was okay. I unquestioningly loved it when I first saw it, but reading the manga made me hate the shit out of it. I've mellowed towards it since then, but it still reeks of Oshii. The guy turns everything he makes into a navel-gazing monologue-fest with occasional bursts of action and beautiful animation. Sometimes it works great (Patlabor 2) sometimes it's just decent (GitS) and sometimes it's unbearable (Innocence, or so I hear).
SAC's got a good balance of the manga's humor and character and the movie's more serious philosophical bent (there's no chibi Major commenting on the Laughing Man's rants).
Also, holy shit. I just realized the movie came out 20 fucking years ago. We're all fucking old.

I wouldn't call it shit, the character designs are abysmal and most of the episodes are just pretty mediocre, but that doesn't mean it's actual shit. It's better than Innocence at least.
