So I watched this with no spoilers and was really enjoying the tone of the series.
Then Guillotine Gorilla happened. I finished the series and I seriously don't know what to think anymore. I honestly have no comprehensible opinion about this anime.

I dunno man. I think it had potential, but most of the time it feels like they never quite took each gimmick quite far enough, like they stopped right before getting the full potential from it and overall the experience felt rather superficial as a result.
Also I still say I'd probably have enjoyed it more if it just stayed a realistic drama like the first few episodes wanted you to believe.

The episode where Masayoshi struggles with keeping the invasion a secret from the public was 10/10 but overall I found the conclusion of that arc to be lackluster, which is wierd considering the climax of the arcs were always GOAT in SamFlam.
I was really close to dropping it until King Torture arc reached its finale, and it was amazing. I knew it was worth finishing. And then to finish it all off the entire last arc of the series was top-tier.

I said it once before, and I shall say it again.
When I went about watching SamFlam I had only ONE expectation. One thing that the show continually promised. And that was a hero. A hero that would never give up, never hide, never be defeated, and never accept evil. And that was the one thing that I got.
Sure, it was a wild ride. Many parts became somewhat bizarre, many parts became somewhat traumatic, some emotionally devastating, so I can understand how many people could lose interest among the many tonal shifts. However, I was not one such person. Because despite the change in tone, there remained a single fundamental principle; a hero. A True Hero.
A Hero that could face off impossible odds, ANY odds, even his inner turmoil, and still come out true to himself and his cause without being tarnished or diminished.
This is truly is an anime about a hero that never gave up, never hid, who's spirit was never defeated, and who NEVER accepted evil. This was a show about True Justice. They presented false justice, men who spoke pretty words about twisted ideals, men who tried to corrupt Samurai Flamenco, tried to kill him, put him in an impossible situation which no normal man could escape with his morals intact. But Justice did prevail. Justice and heroism will always win the day.
The series scalated way too quickly.
Make like Manglobe and kill yourself.

Your post reminds me of this.
I really do adore episode 7 when Masa was struggling to feel sad about the truth about his parents. It's so grounded and realistic. Society nowadays expect us to feel sympathetic at every little thing and are quick to point fingers when we're not acting in such a way. Only those who are easily swayed by society would actually take the dark hero route and try and avenge their parents who they barely remember anything of.
Winter 2015 better not be a disappointment.
It's a real shame Manglobe went under. What other studio in our current climate would be so bold as to have the main heroine get mercilessly raped by the midboss villain? Whatever you think about their work, at least they had balls.

I really enjoy this show, although it's weird how two episodes in the middle of the series make it seem a lot slower than it really is. I've seen it twice and the flamengers arc always bugs me.
