What do you guys think of the theme of this show being about making selections? I felt like it came all at once towards the end, but looking back, there were some decent buildups. It felt like they rushed it in the end, but I'm not sure if Mayu's story would have been any different.
Maybe this is a similar case with Haruhi in that they rushed the latter half of spread because they got confirmation they were able to do a movie.

I would be happier about the Alfou cards if they weren't unplayable bad.
Normally you want to grow to level 2 as fast as possible since you can't close all SIGNI lanes with a level 1 LRIG but this means that it is impossible to use the effect of level 1 Alfou if you go first. And even if you go second you can't really combine her effect with One Rule, Two Birds like the column recommends because of the ener cost. You need to use the ener from the ener phase just to grow and then you would have to gamble with Charging or Pay Charging to get the red ener for One Rule, Two Birds.
Once you a level 2 then it is highly unlikely that you will be able to use level 2 Alfou's effect more than once per game and that is after you already paid 2 fucking extra ener to grow compared to other level 2 LRIGs.
Then there is also the problem that all the best cards are LRIG restricted and thus can't be used by Alfou.

They're both actually really strong, compared to other LRIGs at the same level. Assuming she gets a level 3 and a level 4, her L1 and L2 forms are quite a bit ahead of the curve (for the reasons you said, a basic L1 is probably better, but other effect L1s all have limit 1, making them unplayably bad. With Alfou it's nice to have the option, at least). Even if she tops out at two, her ability is reasonable enough to see some play. While I agree she's rather weak at the moment, that's purely because she has literally two cards printed for her. Once she gets supported in an actual expansion, these two cards give her a very solid foundation.

I dont feel thats grasping at straws at all- from the first episode of Infected, all through Spread, they equated a parallel city where the LRIGs etc go that later is part of Mayus room- a bastardized version of the real world outside, that when her control slips/ Tama/Yuki Mayu is made is destroyed and the LRIGs freed. Evil Tama in episode 1 is alluding to Tama's real nature, and the city being built up is mayu gaining more control the more Eternal Girls she creates.
I dont think things shown often as main themes can be considered 'rationalized speculation' when at the conclusion it becomes very clear.

do you really need the writers to come out and say everything when they have already shown it thoroughly? Particularly when the parallels are so obvious Im sure grade schoolers in Japan understood easily?

Plus, that willpower cliche was to drive home how Mayu even started the Selector system, how Hitome would move away from it, how Ulith managed to get more powerful, and how mayu/Ruu would eventually be able to destroy the room.

Hanayo and Midoriko each had only a single line of dialogue in the Infected finale. For someone who spends over half of his post on verbal posturing (and the other half on literal fanfiction) you don't seem to know the actual WIXOSS canon very well.
Also both Ruu and Grandma were referring to "this" city. Especially taking into account the fact that Grandma had no connection to WIXOSS whatsoever, your theory is pretty shit.
