Apparently Ghouls and Humans are the only beings possesing RC cells in the TG world.
It is highly likely that Ghouls developed out of canibals.
Many canibalistic tribes belief eating another gives them their strength.
Probably at a saturation point in some canibals a new organ formed that was cable to sustain more cells.
At this point they likley became dependant on sustaining a regularily intake of RC cells and to reject normal food to force the upkeep they changed so that normal food gets rejected as it is not saturated with RC cells.
This would explain why ghouls age like humans, and have an equal level of intelligience and can mate with humans.
