What I did was after watching the anime I read the first chapters, meaning the Black Swordsman Arc, and then the first bits of the Golden Age just up to Guts and Griffith's first encounter or so. Then I cut to the Eclipse chapters and read on from there.

I've been thinking about it a lot recently - Griffith's whole god hand shtick is to keep piling up the corpses for that faraway castle, right? Well now that's he's got a castle and country of his own, he might want even more.
And what's more? Godhood.
I always thought that it would be Guts that would ruin every ones Falconia Dreamland, but now I'mstarting to think that Griffith will do it by sacrificing everyone again so he can claim a status even greater than Godhand.

That's an extremely common theory. People usually claim at the same time that he'll sacrifice Falconia to gain such power. It's not something that I believe will happen, it would be too cliche.

Still wonder whether Gaiseric = Skull Knight (even though it's heavily implied). I mean we see that the from that city, all the inhabitants were sacrifices, so someone must've used a behelit. Now if you use it you sacrifice something which is most dear to you, so for the user it must've been the city/inhabitants. A possible candidate would be the King, which would be Gaiseric himself. But that would mean he would turn into an apostle/ god hand member if it was the egg of the conqueror, and Skulll Knight is neither afaik.

I sort of have a theory about the religion. So we don't know if Void was the first Godhand or just the oldest remaining, my theory is that he's the first, and that the Idea of Evil and the Godhand are corrupted imitation of a preexisting system, which is based on the four deities Schierke uses. In addition I believe this corrupted imitation was given power through the currently dominant religion in Berserk, which Schierke explained is partially based on those four dieties as well, and that Void may have been the first pope or prophet if said religion who sacrificed the city in order to give the church more power, and therefore give the newly formed Idea of Evil more power.
