I have read a lot of LNs, but again, most have boring prose, I really have no idea if it´s the fault of the translator or the source just don´t translate all that well. But if you just seek enjoyable content that have well written characters at least:
Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu - Berserk without the dark fantasy monster rape and gore. And the MC is a mage helping his king friend protect his kingdom while traveling with one girl, later another to find legendary items. Might be up your ally if you like fantasy and adventures with brooding war in the backdrop.
Shield Hero might be fun, but is a chore to read with more shitty power absorption and grind exposition. But is one that starts of great and just goes down hill.

For one, it's not an actual harem despite your assertion. The protagonist commits himself to one girl early on and what little competition for his affection remains is insignificant. The seeminlgy stereotypical imouto actually comes to support her brother's decision. I'm fine with most of the standard cliches in shows, and I've evengrown to like some of them. But I can't understand why people read LNs.
We live in an era that allows you to load up any browser and almost instantly access a free library of almost every classic novel in the public domain. That's all the works of James Joyce, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Jules Verne, Feodor Dostoevsky, Edgar Allen Poe, P. G. Wodehouse. An incredibly large sampling of historically acclaimed works, in any genre you like, for free, instantly available. If you've read all the classics, or want something more recent, any decent library has thousands more books with an even greater range of authors. If you don't want to leave your house, there's Amazon. If you're just plain cheap, anything that more than five people have read is up for download somewhere.
I'm sincerely not trying to be incendiary here. I just can't understand why, with such a massive and convenient selection of books available in the world, people specifically seek out the medium that has consistent problems with awkward translations, stifling prose, cookie-cutter settings and plots, and generally being written for teenagers.
