Or just 3D just a little bit pig disgusting anime with 360° view

Pick one.
>>
Nothing. At absolute most you'll get parallax on a static angle, but nobody is going to bother with that.
>>

definitely not animu
>>
VR isn't going to catch on as anything more than a gimic.
>>
>>133695369
Absolutely nothing, except maybe an extension of thst personalised cinema concept.
>>
>>133695990
I'd love if it caught on as a niche that otaku would obsess over so much that they'd forget about animu forever.
>>
>>133695369
Not much.

Although, I wonder if someone will make a virtual movie theater so you can sort of have social watchings of certain things, not even anime related, just an curious idea to me.
>>
>>133696090
Numerous already exist.
>>
>>133696115

What about those top tier anime figurines? I'd imagine a VR anime would feature characters that looked like that.
>>
>>133696176
Yes and no. Problem is the pixel density isn't high enough in VR so you're basically watching SD resolution.
>>
>>133696271
That would look like stop motion stuff like Coraline more than anything.
>>
it is now a great time to have a face sitting fetish
>>
>>133696304
Would the Samsung version fix that? As I recall the phones have really high resolutions, not sure what the occulus itself is up to.
>>
>>133696391
The Oculus is 2560*1600

A 4K VR headset would be an improvement
>>
>>133696345
and despite the millions being spent on advertising a perverted anon sold me on vr
>>
>>133696176
I imagine it's only really as fun as the social experience you get from it is, I've only used a demo of it on a OR DK2 on my own, and the resolution makes it kinda worthless compared to a regular screen.

>>133696256
Somewhat a solution for games, but as far as anime goes it's not really that different from using full CGI which in the vast majority of cases doesn't look particularly good. Only recent standout example of good CGI I can think of is Etotama. If you're going to go for a 'VR anime', it'd make more sense to just make an environment/animation tech demo instead, especially when costs and niche are considered.

Sanzigen might fuck around with it a bit though, be interesting to see if anything comes from it.

>>133696391
CV1 is only 1440p, but there's 4K phone panels showing up these days. Problem there is persistence and refresh.
>>
>>133696391
No, it's not even close really. To have a virtual monitor have a similar pixel density as your average real life one we need 4k per eye. It'll probably work well enough under that but that's to give you an idea.
>>
>>133696434
>*1200p
My bad.
>>
>>133696428
A 4k headset will never be cheap enough to warrant a purchase. I'm convinced these things will hurt your eyes
>>
>>133696434
>>133696428
CV1 is actually less than 1440p, it's 2160×1200, GearVR is higher resolution. It makes up for it by having better optics and screen utilization.
>>
>>133696479
Right now it is just a gimmick. Anime isn't really improved as it is 2D, and I don't play video games outside of Victoria 2. We can see where it goes, but I doubt that it will be like Snowcrash at its current capacity.

I remember seeing how a guy made a virtual arcade for Oculus Rift, with customizable game selection, various tapes you could find and play, and even a bowling alley. Maybe an anime theater would be interesting.

Either that, or 3D anime that you can watch from any angle.
>>
>>133696594
Sounds like a lot of bullshit really, 11k making a 3D effect? Come on.

No doubt there's going to be higher res VR in the future but I wouldn't count on it too soon. Another thing to keep in mind is the screen needs to be OLED for low persistence and so far that has been a step behind LCD in terms of resolution.
>>
>>133696701

>>133696728
Well we'll see in 2018 I guess. It would fix any resolution issues for VR for sure. Then the issue will be we need a new port to support 11k at 90/120hz. Currently the best thing we got is DP 1.3 which isn't even out yet and that can only support subsampled 8k at 60hz or 4k at 120hz.

>>133696728
once dx12 is fully supported i can see this happening especially if we can develop affordable sub mm eye tracking, with that we can use foveated rendering to low the insane costs of a 4/8/11k display. And btw it's "easy" to crack up the number of pixels of a display, the thing is, for vr you need global shuttering, low persistence, a+ color reproduction, etc. and be all of that while being cheap.

I'd pay for a streaming service that would allow this. Each server is basically a theater room with assigned seating and VoIP that simulates distance so you'd need to yell for someone on the other side to hear you

Its a market just begging for someone to harness
>>
>>133696951
The Oculus cinema already supports Netflix I think. There's talks about adding social stuff to it. Seems inevitable now really especially with Facebook involved.
>>
>>133696951
I don't see the appeal at all. It just seems like the worst of both worlds. Paying for streaming is always gay too

What's with this meme? The sweet spot for lenses is small, the amount of freedom your eyes have doesn't necessitate eye tracking.

Their will also be one guy with Kamina as his avatar surrounded by people screaming how great getter robo is
>>
>>133697233
It's not a meme, search for foveated rendering and Abrash (chief rd scientist at Oculus) already showed on his talks that the actual lenses are rudimentary at best and the one needed to give you at least a 180º fov and depth of field would be bigger than your arm.
>>
>>133696951
Why assigned seating? Why not just allow users to have customizable rooms size to accommodate larger amounts of people?
>>
>>133697328
Yeah, but how does eye tracking help with FOV? The Oculus lenses are pretty much fixed save for IPD adjustment.
>>
>>133697125
>/v/ theater for beta livestreams etc
The horror...
>>
>>133697405
because of foveated rendering, the bigger the fov the bigger the resolution needs to be if you want to preserve the quality. with precise eye tracking and the technique i mentioned above you can reduce the rendering costs (which are exponential). go do your research.

The consumer version of the Rift is releasing next year, so you can wait for that. You also need a good PC to run the Rift in the first place, it's pretty graphically demanding. I've tried War Thunder with the Oculus Rift at gamescom one or two years ago.

There still are some limitations:

- the resolution is too low for a serious sim; you have to lean in to read the instruments in the cockpit
- spotting targets on the ground or at distance is rather hard

Perhaps 2k - 4k displays could fix this, but I don't see any GPUs capable of rendering at this resolution at 120hz yet, which means that it will take at least one generation of GPUs until it's really good.

An even more important aspect: there is no natural depth of field.

A lot of depth perception and range estimation, especially at touching range, is done based on the intuitive feeling of distance your eyes provide by having to adjust. In the Oculus, there is no such thing, since everything is placed at the same distance from you, after all, you're looking at a distorted screen right in front of your face through two lenses.

This gives you the impression that you're not sitting inside a cockpit but inside a bubble onto which a cockpit is projected. In general, depth perception is lacking.

People who are freaking out in youtube videos are in most cases acting.

It's a good step forwards and I'm eager to see what other type of development is happening, but I wouldn't be too hyped yet.

War Thunder is not a serious flight simulator and this is also why you have zoom in video games. It's a replacement for being able to focus on distant objects in real life.
>>
>>133698764
I wouldn't say they're acting, so much as the fact it fills a large amount of your FOV produces an isolating effect which draws you into the environment a lot more than otherwise.
Agreed on the depth perception part, that's something which is really sorely lacking from the kit at the moment, because while the effect of depth is present, it's got very little strength to it.

Just saying, but a game wouldn't have to be 3D

Ever see with one eye? You lose that depth, you're literally seeing in 2D, and although you're aware the world around you is three dimensional you can't actually see the true shape and depth of things.

All Occulus animu would take is a drawing for every angle, unless they can somehow trick the eyes another way (just no fucking billboard)
Biggest concern is Occulus porn, imagine living out that one Saturday Koyomi had in nisemonogatari where instead of talking to Tsukihi in the morning, sexually harassing Hachikuji, playing life with Sengoku, etc... You just fucked them all instead, but continued like it was in the show. Just a dream, though, can be taken as a suggestion if you want
>>
>>133702412
In terms of anime, VR anime might be possible if it's 100% 3DCG or animators learn how to hand draw 360 degree animations. Also regarding porn, MMD is compatible with the Rift, all you have to do to fuck an anime is to load up some decent models and animations and you're good to go.
