>someday we will have a functional Optical Character Recognition program that works with manga so we can read it using translation aggregation software, eliminating the need to wait for scanalation.
>tfw it won't matter because our brains will have been digitized by then anyways and we'll be able to install MOONTXT DLC for $4.99
>>
the only question is: It will be in our lifetime or much farther into the future

Doubtful. And even if we manage to achieve it, it'll still be available only to a small percentage of the population. (the Brain Digitization, not the
Optical Character Recognition program)

Optical Character Recognition programs will certainly be available for everyone in about 15 to 30 years.

It probably won't be necessary though. We're making progress in the creation of service/maid AIs that can help us do anything faster.

So we would just ask the AI to translate whatever we wanted on the spot.

>>133659372
nigga it's a joke, obviously OCR will be before something that is likely in the realm of fantasy.

I just used it to juxtapose how slow OCR technology for moon is

The moment we can create a middleman between the conscious mind and a computer, shit is gonna start flying PRETTY FUCKING FAST.
It's sort of a breakthrough technology. It's hard to figure out exactly when it'll happen but when it does it's gonna be a huge technological and cultural boom.

webm unrelated maybe

why are people thinkin computers are gonna make us smarted. Organic matter stores information way better and more effectively. DNA can hold terabytes of code.
If we have any kind of computer-human interfacing in the future we'll probably be using some kinda freaky "organic computer" that looks like a Half-life facehugger
>>
We already have OCR programs that are extremely solid. But an algorithm that can parse grammar and words is so far off that learning japanese is a better bet.

Not how it works. You will always be a shitty meatbag.

How far away are we from languages becoming obsolete?

Because fuck I'm still learning japanese and I want to enjoy the exclusiveness for at least a decade before the babel fish comes along to make everyone equal.

Someday the Singularity will come

Someday anime will become real.
>>
>>133660763
Ages away. Even then, no matter how good a translation software is, it'll never be able to capture the magic of another language.

I wouldn't even know how software could figure out the context in Japanese, let alone more complex languages.
>>
>>133660943
Giant linguistic database. It would still be imperfect because slang evolves all the time.

Nah, but at the rate current tech is developing we'll be close enough to our waifus for comfort.

So /a/, how is the waifu age going to work? Are we going to be stuck with iterative improvements of our currently developing technologies or will some large breakthrough occur that destroys the wall between 2D and 3D?

what? haptic feedback at its apex mimics texture so you could be theoretically walking on different terrains and stuff.
This kind of haptic feedback isn't the kind you're thinking of it's like sci-fi miro-haptic feedback

There are some OCR programs that work with manga already.

But they won't be much help if you don't have your own understanding of japanese grammar.

It could work with French since the language is similar to English, but Japanese? Nope.
>>
Seems rather hopeful. Although I guess we're always bad at at predicting how technology evolves and in what timespan. What I think would be most concerning would be if this technology was only used by the 'elite' or the richest to make further their own ends. There's no way the little guy is going to get anything, as per usual unless it's all done with open technologies.
>>
>>133658469
We already have that nigger, it's called an iPhone.
>>
>>133659992
It's not really about being smarter or having better memory but about sharing and acquiring information faster and more directly.
>>
>>133659593
OCR technology for shit as close to English to Spanish is still decades away. Translating individual words is easy. Translating a book with OCR is still next to impossible if you give even the smallest damn about retaining meaning.
