I kinda want to watch something with classic fansubs. I think the anime community may be losing some important anime culture history with the modern throwing away old fansubs. They represent an important part in the history of fansubbing, and you will lose many references if you don't have access to older fansubs.
Also I think the old fourth generation fansub tapes should be taken care of and made avaible for download, so you could get a genuine 90s anime fan experience.

LN's are especially unsafe. Without pictures or spoken word to help guide the translator, LN's require the highest level of comprehension and language competency to adequately translate, both in japanese (to understand what's actually being said) and in english (to translate into appropriate prose and syntax). At this point I'm of the opinion that a (You) chain shared between 2 anons more than 4 posts long is the digital equivalent to a spontaneous hookup.
When a character gives some weird cultural reference or something foreigners won't understand, TL notes are awesome, whether they fully explain the point or just give you a search term so you can find stuff out yourself. However modern sub groups, that's fansubbers as well as CR and Funi, think it would be better if the line was just replaced with an unrelated meme and never explained.
TL notes are inifinitely superior to replacing the line with some meme or cultural reference. Especially when it just gets changed to some American cultural reference so it just alienates everyone else anyway.

It's basically a synonym for manga, and if anything it's the more formal sounding term in Japanese. It's maybe not very common in just conversational Japanese but it's still used a lot. Like, it's what manga publishers tend to use for their brands (Kodansha Comics, Jump Comics, etc.), loads of the adult magazines especially are called Comic (something).
