So, Gazeff. I get what he was trying to do with that 'duel', sacrificing his life to give Brain and Climb some manner of insight into Ainz' abilities and all (hardly his fault for not considering the existence of timestop), but does this strike anyone else as not just ultimately pointless, but a also rather asshole-ish thing to do? I mean, he was offered a chance to instantly stop the massacre for a relatively small price, i.e. his pride. Sure, having your pride is important, no doubt, but there were probably still several ten thousand people alive by then...
Also, Lockmeyer was too good for this world. Despite being such a minor character, I really liked the guy. He seemed on the level.

>>133578891
I think Gazef's loyalty to the king was shown as more of a character flaw here than a beneficial trait.

If we take the three volume pattern.
He might subjugate Dwarves in one volume and the next two volumes would be another storyline (like v4-6). Loli Dragon Queen isn't completely out of the running yet, it just won't be next volume (unless the interlude is)
>>133583793
I live in beijing and I've never heard this one. The most common slur is (小)日本鬼子 which more or less means 'Little Japanese Devils'.

I've heard that back in the middle ages, the Chinese word for Japanese people meant Dwarf, and they eventually changed it because the Japs were all butthurt about it.
>>
>>133583759
Well they could be going on simultaneously, ie Ainz & few others go to Azellirisia Mountains and "certain others" go to Dragonic Kingdom.

Though I don't think that Nazarick/Enri CAN avoid getting mixed up with the Dragonic Kingdom/Beastmen War.

Unless we first see lolimilf & goons struggling alone and then have to request aid from Nazarick when ST ignore them altogether.

Or we go with the 3-vol-climax route like >>133583835 says and see the final chapter on the war in 12nd volume and everything until that is buildup.

Gazef was ultimately more loyal to the King and Kingdom than it's people actually. You can talk about what a douche he is for prioritizing a ruler of a nation over the nation's people, but from the perspective of aiming to benefit the monarch the most without knowing Ainz is just trying to unify everyone like Qin Shi Huang it was a reasonable move to make.

It's just that, as reasonable as that move is, he fails to realize that his own King advocates the happiness of his people more than his own well being in the first place, so ironically his own priorities and the King's do not line up properly.

This is also a parallel with Nazarick, where the NPCs for the sake of Ainz prioritize Ainz over what Ainz himself wants. The King and both Ainz are 'forced' to roll with what their retainers want lacking the brainpower to reign in their talented subordinates.

>No timer/dbm shit because the game doesn't allow you to mod
>12 million players
>600k who knows how to

Nah doesn't sound all that far fetched to me. WoW at it's peak with arena during TBC/Wrath was the same, actually worse given how bad the lower end gladiators were and how many were just people hopping on accounts selling titles that made up the less than 1%. Meaning even in a real life analogy, there were keyboard turners in the upper 1~% relying purely on addons/macros to do their jobs while the 99% also did the same even for PVE and still failed hard most of the time.

You underestimate just how bad most people are at vidya. Just hop over to /v/ once in awhile and you'll realize this.

If anything Maruyama is pretty lenient. 5 whole percent?

He is Japanese. Everybody knows Japanese are better at vidya than waito piggu
>>
>>133586585
Well put.

That isn't to say that Gazef didn't care for the people, it's just that he prioritizes preserving the king's priority. He was being forward thinking; the battle was already lost, so he could either save the lives of the people being killed by submitting to Ainz or try to keep the king's rule as stable as he can by dying as a hero to the kingdom and galvanizing the people.

This was actually rather pragmatic of Gazef and it's sad that some people can only turn their noses up at him and say he only acted on foolish pride. He was willing to sacrifice lives for the future stability of the kingdom rather than to allow it to break down from unrest and further in-fighting between the factions.
>>
>>133587311
Nips suck at MMOs though. They can't even get world firsts in their own games.
>>
>>133586991
The heck. How could it be that hard to time your moves? It's hard going to learn it, but it's all about tuning up your internal clock. It should be even easier if you don't have to factor in cast time.
>>
>>133587174
It's a pretty 'realistic' premonition for the future considering how the current trend of MMOs are right now don't you think?

>>133587311
No, first of all Yggdrasil was mostly a Japanese game. There hasn't even been one mention of international players so far.

Second, Japanese players are unconditionally worse at PvP than other heavy gamer cultures like waito piggu or gooks or chinks, etc with the sole exception of fighter games where they are not completely shit stomped. Oh and maybe racing games but I'm pretty sure the nips only play Initial D arcade and that's a shitty game.

FPS, TPS, RTS, MOBA, you name anything that has been propped up for competition and Japanese has never won it. They were casuals a decade ahead of the rest of the world and the early success of the PSP and humongous success of the DS was proof of that.

>In the silence — interrupted only by the anguished screams of the Kingdom’s soldiers in the distance — Ainz’s still, small voice rang out with exceptional clarity.
>“— A cheer, then.”
>“A cheer in celebration of my supreme power.”

>>
>>133578891
As far as Gazef knows, Ainz aims to enslave humans under Undead rule. Giving the people even a small edge to resist this murderous tyrant in the future is far from not thinking about them.
>>
>>133587398
Tuning your internal clock requires putting effort and playing with the aim of getting better. Have you not played MMOs before and interacted with pubs? This is not something most MMO players do. They play to have fun casually.

Why do you think new MMOs and even current WoW supports PVE having timers FOR YOU?

It's like the difference between someone working out with a diet plan and proper workout routine making steady gains versus someone who goes to the gym whenever he wants and does whatever he feels like so he can feel good about himself after sweating some.

How is that so hard to relate?
>>
>>133587322
>>133587543

Yeah like I said, it's without a shadow of a doubt Gazef is a dumbass, but he has always been one, even admits he is one, and still managed to make the best decisions possible with what his meager mind was capable of.

It'd be like hating on Climb for not getting a clue on Renner's true self. You can't do that, he was never capable of it to begin with.

Only Renner who has contact with Demiurge and clear superior intellect would have made the right choices, but chances are she gave no fucks and just allowed everyone to get their ass handed to them since no matter who comes out on top after this within the Kingdom, royals or nobles, she would easily be able to break the chains holding her down now that everyone's weakened.
>>
>>133586991
>>133587398
>>133587462
>>133587558

You've got to remember a few things first:

First, a Time Stop Spell is one of those things that everyone wishing to either PK or PVP will protect against. Even if you can't get damaged during the time stop, most players would use it to either escape or get to a better position, so everyone with half a brain will know that it has to be countered in some way.
And second, a delayed spell is only considered "good" if it hits immediately after the time stop ends. Because of lag/delay and maybe other distractions it might have been a bit difficult to perform in-game, and it might have required near perfect ping or else you might fuck it up.

So, if you want to do this "sick ass" combo, you gotta face various challenges, namely, you're trying to first use a spell that might not actually work, JUST so you can use another spell that is kinda difficult to pull off.
It's just too much of a hassle. Instead of going Time Stop > Delayed Super Nova you could just go Super Nova instead and get the same results.
>>
>>133587956
Why are you quoting me when I pointed out most of what you said? I'm rather confused.
>>
>>133587304
I wonder how many hours Ainz spent on practising that line.

Also, who were the three Demiurge wanted kept alive? The Marquis and Climb are obvious ones, is the third the King? I couldn't imagine why it would be Brain.
>>
>>133591112
>Demiurge, what do kids like?
I would be legitimately interested to know how Maruyama would make Demiurge answer this with.
Would he be plain honest about not knowing since he never had his own childhood?

Would he do horrible and cruel experiments to any remaining human children he has in the farm to see what they "like?"
>"Ainz-sama, human children, rather interestingly, do not like playing with the rotting corpses of their familial pets, but will, after prodding, play with the remains of their previously sacrificed parents as if they were still alive."

Or would he go ask Mare/Aura?

Will we ever get the citizens of Carne village knowing that Ainz is in fact a lich who casually kills hundreds of thousands of people in minutes as easily and with as much personal significance as we'd have a daily jog?

I really want to know if they'll accept him even if he's Papa Bones. Considering they work with goblins and stinking ogres, it may not be too much a leap for them to accept him as their master since he really is quite so kind to them.

I mean, it'd probably make funeral arrangements really, really awkward if he asks outright if he can have corpses (otherwise stealing them in the dead of night from their graveyards), but maybe he can convince them of pseudo-Buddhist ideas on the spiritual significance of the dead (i.e. there isn't one since the soul is left and the body is just meat and bone waiting to rot)?

I mean, when an immortal magic talking skeleton wizard god talks to you about death, you'd probably think he's right even if he tries lying to you.
>>
>>133591571

>I mean, when an immortal magic talking skeleton wizard god talks to you about death, you'd probably think he's right even if he tries lying to you.
The lizardfolk already have a weird fledgling cargo/death cult revolving around Ainz, so it's not so far to think that Ainz could pull an entire goddamn cosmology out of his ass about how corpses given to him to reanimate are going to have a better afterlife or something. He's the closest thing any of the NW as far has seen of someone who is a legitimate god/being.
>>
>>133591746
>The lizardfolk already have a weird fledgling cargo/death cult revolving around Ainz
this has to be complicated very much by Cocytus
If the lizards ask about Ainz and he just flat out tells them the truth they will probably think he's a real god that can hear and answer their prayers because Cocytus probably also thinks he can and answered thusly.
>>

>>
>>133591950
They do count, but they're so far back in their history that they might as well have been fairy tales. Part of the reason everyone is so afraid of Ainz isn't necessarily that he's so powerful or that what he can do is "impossible," but it reaches so far above what anyone can do in a lifetime of the hardest effort that no one could ever do it and thus far the real capabilities of a 3.5 fully-spec'd magic caster are just legends that aren't "real"...until they see it.
>>
>>133591808
I honestly feel like Maruyama's playing with regular shonen tropes to trick us. like how Ainz said Gazef held the one sword that could damage him? he was upped before he even got the chance.
>>
>>133591746
In D&D if you have enough worshipers you literally become god. Lizardmen+Carne+E-Rantel and surrounding village should be enough to propel him to godhood if his religion gains enough traction and create his own godly realm.

Worshipers that pass away expect to go to some form of afterlife, how they get there is up to Ainzen-sama.

In the Manual of the Planes and the Planescape setting. After death, the souls of the dead travel to the plane of their deity and become petitioners. The souls of those who die believing in no deity vanish from existence, although it is rumored that a dark power is secretly harvesting these souls for some awful purpose.
>>
>>133592099
Maruyama is particularly really great at using tropes effectively and in great/novel combinations.
Case in point: Albedo
>succubus
>yandere
>virgin

Ainz:
>undead lich
>normal joe in incredible circumstances
>the hero we deserve
>most adorable character in the series

He somehow knows a magic formula for great characters.

>>
>>133592120
>In D&D if you have enough worshipers you literally become god.
Does it explain how prayers and godrealms work?

Because it's going to be astoundingly awkward if Ainz reaches godhood not only by ACCIDENT, but also that he has hundreds and growing of undead worshippers in his head paying him reverence and asking for divine favor in a heaven that he didn't actually create (and may no even know how to get there himself).

I would assume the Empire's archives or spies must have information about the ST, BS, and the 6 "Gods" right?

I'd be very surprised if Ainz doesn't consider the ST a possible suspect of being the one's who did the MC in the next volume. I wonder what horrors the Kingdom would realize themselves in when they piece together the fact that the King, Raeven, and Climb were spared.

If someone could piece together that the three are closely connected to Renner, and if Renner confesses to the fact that she made a deal with Jaldabaoth, and thus Jaldabaoth is a servant of Ainz Ooal gown, they will probably rest all their hopes on Momon, who "defeated" Jaldabaoth for their future.

I got the impression it was to show Brian and others a possible weakness of Ainz. When it comes time to try to take him down, they not only got him to admit that a weapon exists that can hurt him, but it forces them to also find a measure to time stop. If he hadn't taken that duel, any attempt to save humanity (in their minds, that's what they need to do) would fail the moment they challenged him without that countermeasure.

He died to give valuable information to humanity.
>>
>>133597273

>>133591571
Funnily enough, peasants usually don't give half a damn about who actually rules them and nationalism doesn't seem to be a thing yet. I mean, okay, skellington is spooky, but the skellington at least didn't kill us, saved us from knights and Slane, and even gave us a super combat maid to protect us and gave golems and shit.
Nobles are technically human but when they burn your houses down, rob you blind 'legally' and just sort of waltz in and take your three daughters and christmas cake imouto you stop giving a shit about them and probably consider them worse monsters than something like DK - it's SCARY, sure, but it doesn't hurt you. It's like the difference between a huge bouncer with a mean look who works for your friend and is great at Mario Kart and some skinny dude who keeps putting legos in your chair and kicking your shins while the teacher isn't looking.
>>
>>133597291
So what if they get time-stop countermeasures? Against a worthy opponent, Ainz doesn't use it. He didn't use it even once against Shalltear. He'll probably go full Desperation Aura V on their asses and pick them cautiously apart.
>>
>>133591950
It's not that they're not gods but that they're legends. I mean, the legends say that there's this dude who shot down the sun nine times. Can you actually imagine what that'd look like? Or say someone like Achilles - yeah we know he was scary in a fight but HOW scary is he? It doesn't really sink in until you see the dude take apart an army with nigh a scratch. Plus, since they're 600 years ago and your grandparent's grandparent's never saw them, who's to say that they actually existed as gods? Just the scriptures, written by their followers...which is an obviously biased source.

Nobles and bandits both rob the people, the bandits just don't pretend to rule them in the process. Practically speaking, the nobles have done nothing good for the people while Ainz and Momon have done nothing but good for the people.

Even if Ainz turns out to be the supreme overlord of death they'll still follow him, it's a better deal than the shitty nobles and princes who keep shitting all over them.
>>
>>133578891
Gazef thought he had a minuscule chance against Ainz, and that he would never had it again. Thus he tried to seize it.

In fact, he had none and had underestimated Ainz (as Raeven, because he probably couldn't imagine his level of power). He thought Ainz was overconfident, when the latter wasn't.

Climb and Brain tried to cheer themselves as they could, giving some justification that they would accept to Gazef's gambit.
>>
>>133593293
It means that Gazef suddenly realized the Empire's plan is to do just that, and knows that the Empire has Superman on their side, but can't put two and two together and realize that AINZ is the reason why they'll "win a victory so complete and absolute, the Kingdom would not risk trying to take back E-Rantel."

The only difference is actually that the peasants are liable to worship you as a benevolent local deity if you're nonhuman / monster, because it's easier to call a nonhuman a God than a fellow human a God.
tl;dr nobody actually cares he's a skellington, they're not being randomly attacked and their life is better than they've ever dreamed possible.
>>
>>133597291
They don't even know that he HAS time stop. As far as they can tell, Ainz probably used something akin to Eye of Death or some shit that kills with a glance.
His 'timestop is important' was said after he cast Silent Time Stop - nobody (ok, Mare maybe) heard it.
>>
>>133578891
To Gazef, he knew that if he accepted Ainz's offer, everyone would turn on Ranpossa and he would be completely discredited. Gazef can't bear that.

Challenging him to a duel also had the effect of keeping Ainz from commanding the Dark Young to fuck everything up while the duel was in progress, which would give the King that much more time to escape.

Finally, he knew that if he died, Ranpossa would at least be able to win some sympathy by showing that his most loyal champion died trying to fight the Sorcerer King.

And of course, he was hoping that his super martial art would let him beat Ainz (he didn't even get the chance to use it).
>>
>>133597480
That's my point, the normal folk more or less just want food to eat and peace and stability. They don't give a damn about ideals and 'muh humans > spooky skellingtons'. Their social norms seem to be around early renaissance at best - in that case, Nobles and Commoners aren't even the same breed of people - they certainly don't act like the same breed of people.
>>133597615
>Challenging him to a duel also had the effect of keeping Ainz from commanding the Dark Young to fuck everything up while the duel was in progress, which would give the King that much more time to escape.
This - Gazef values King above Country, but the way to guarentee the King lives is also the way that will probably rob the King of his crown. Therefore he's blabbering on and on about muh duel so he can delay the Sorcerer King. Plus I'd expect him to think that 'a mage this strong should be passably weak in close-quarters where he'd not be able to use big spells because he'd hit himself, so if I can get close I have a tiny chance of overwhelming him if I play all my cards right'. Timestop was out of his imagination. Does NW even know a spell like that is possible? What tier is Time Stop?
>>
>>133597587
not that it matters at all since he could have just used grasp heart, punched him, gave him a hug, launched him into the sky from a bone wall, showed him his Dark Hole, or just let him attack him until Gazef died of exhaustion despite his magic item that gave him endless stamina.
>>133597615
I think everything but
>And of course, he was hoping that his super martial art would let him beat Ainz (he didn't even get the chance to use it).
was the most convincing argument for Zeefs death I've heard. Even explains why he wouldn't let himself get revived, since that would tarnish the king's name even more by reminding everyone that even though zeef is still around he's worth nothing.
That martial art bullshit was just Brains headcanon. Zeef was already using six MA's at once in vol 1.

>What tier is Time Stop?
In D&D it is a 9th tier transmutation spell.
>>
>>133597669
Time Stop is 9th tier IIRC. Even ST can't cast higher than 7th tier with huge rituals and/or the Crown of Wisdom.

Ainz is an outside context problem for the NW, simply put.

>>133597700
Ainz used True Death because he respected Gazef enough to give him a merciful death; remember the definition of mercy in Nazarick.

Now, what I'd like to know is what Ainz was thinking by trying to recruit Gazef. He certainly doesn't need his fighting power, he has lizardmen to teach martial arts, it seems the only reason is because he wants to treat Gazef as a dress-up doll and give him gear from Nazarick's armory so he has a fighting puppet to play with (he obviously uses the Guardians for anything serious)
>>
>>133597716
>9th tier
So it's probably a 10th tier spell in Ygg then? The way Ainz keeps activating it for kicks I expected something like t8, t9.
>tfw I subconciously underestimate Ainz Ooal Gown because his feats seem too ridiculous
I-I'll be going to the happy farm now, no need to push me.
what tier is Drifting Master Mine then?

Ainz respected Gazef as a person for his determination and his courage in marching off to his death. Remember he's basically the only guy who didn't beg for his life, ever, as far as Ainz knew.
>>
>>133597773
Drifting Master Mine sounds like a contact-fused Delayed Blast Fireball, which is 7th level. So maybe 8th tier?

Then again, Skull Trap, which is an immobile mine,is a 3rd level spell that does huge damage at higher caster levels.

Hm, about Gazef, he is the one person who defied Jircniv's prediction that anyone who knew about Ainz's power would not dare to fight him. He just up and challenged the sorcerer king to 1v1 him despite having seen what he did.

I can see why Ainz would respect that kind of courage even as he shakes his head at his stubbornness.
>>
>>133597291
How would the two even know he employed a time stop? Neither have the necessary outside insight to conclude that anything like that happened. To them, Gazef rushed forward, fell over and was dead. Yeah, *magic* happened, obviously, but beyond that they have no way to even contextualize that info.
I doubt even Fluder or Rigrit have the knowledge to make anything of that. True Death was a 9th tier spell, i.e. literaly out of reach for anyone in the NW, and I doubt something as stupidly powerful as an instant-cast Time Stop is anywhere below that.
As is, they know that Ainz *probably* did something and that Gazef *probably* did as a result of that. That's a pretty fucking shaky foundation to base an assassination strategy on...

>why recruit
he said some line about collection, its like getting all the cool action figures of your favorite anime or something
thats what zeef amounted to
I think he should have had Demi replace the king in his mind with Ainz, though I doubt Ainz would do that out of respect.
>>
>>133597895
What Gazef wanted to of was make Ainz show his prowess in personal combat so future generations could learn from it.

He got his wish. However, Ainz fights on a level so far above the NW that even seeing him show his stuff didn't teach Brain and Climb anything. It would be like walking out into an open field to show people that artillery from 30 km away can fire 155mm shells to blow up the entire area.
>>
>>133597895
I think they'll team up with landfall and think they have a chance if they get Momon to join too
This pattern will likely repeat. They just don't understand how powerful he truly is even if he does summon army killing monsters.
>>133598003
that was climb's guess
I think he's wrong
Zeef is just loyal and dumb

Some people took up Ainz's wild ride after the anime, which means that they just blazed through 10 books and got weekly updates

It'll be tough withdrawal

I'd rather fill the void with nazi loli if sky would translate it.

What if Enri ends up killing Ainz after powerleveling and getting even more fit thanks to her army?
>>
>>133599150
If love to see an army of 5000 power leveled goblins storming the gates of nazarek

Her Excellency, General Enri's goblin army vs. Nazarek final showdown when?
>>
>>133599238
More like Enri asking for supplies from her God and goes on campaigns to kill shit for the glory of Ainz. Look out beastmen!
>>
>>133591794
Shashuryu already kinda did that asking Mare about the Tomb and Mare confirmed that Ainz and friends created divine realms. As far as the lizards go, Ainz can literally shape the world as he see fits.
>>
>>133599269
I'd rather see the lizardmen being sent to purge the beastmen for the glory of their new god.
>>
>>133597382
>I mean, the legends say that there's this dude who shot down the sun nine times.

That isn't known in the NW, because that legend is associated with Hyou Yi, the bow Peroroncino created, which is actually based off a real Chinese legend. In other words, it wasn't even a legit World Class Item, it was no different than someone creating Cloud's Buster Sword in Yggdrasil.
>>
>>133599302
Same but I doubt their numbers are enough; tag along perhaps?
>>
>>133599319
They can fight alongside undead to boost their numbers. I just want the goblins the meme and flex.

Has Overlord ever talked about on how the players 'dive' into the game? Or they prefer to avoid to talk about this issue?

no, nothing
The few facts we know about the world-
>Nazi uniform pro environmental movement in yurop, they lost
>you need artificial heart and lungs to breathe the air
>there was recently a big war
>worker's rights are pretty shit

Clementine didn't beg for her life. She just struggled the whole way and despaired. Gazef on the other hand is the only person who faced death bravely that Ainz knew.

>>133599141
I just hope he doesn't neglect catching up on his other series, like Knights and Magic, Altina, Gifting, etc. Those 3 have been rotating forever with no regularity I'm always afraid he's gonna drop them.

"Hohoho, Heavy Infantry! As Jugem-san taught you!"

REMOVE BEASTMEN remove beastmen

The war against beastmen is a legit excuse to have Warboss Enri fucking up furries with a gigantic choppa.
>>
>>133599141
Man, I was pretty apprehensive about this when I first read a synopsis. I mean a nazi protagonist is not something I could usually get behind, considering I am German (laugh all you want, but I am old-fashioned like that).
Thank fuck the whole thing takes place in fantasy not-Germany and so far reads more like a Flashman novel as portrayed by a psychotic loli, which I am all for.
Can't wait for the next chapter.
>>
>>133599627
Well it's more like Patrioric Prussia instead of Nazi since at least so far there has been no "race" based hardline nationalism.
>>
>>133599467
Can't lie, I'd love to learn more about an enviromental group that thought mustard-colored SS uniforms would be a good idea. That sounds like there were a lot of wacky hijinks going on.

So Gunka no Baltzar got a LN adaptation or something?
