I've been reading Manga raws lately and I keep seeing katakana and hiragana used together. I am a complete beginner, so I thought they were used seperately. What is the exact relationship between the two- and Kanji as well. I guess I didn't understand the guide as well as I thought. I learn best with examples, can someone provide one?
>>
>>133054885
Not that guy but this is a great idea. Though I rarely see my desktop since most of the time I'm on 4chan. Maybe setting it as an oneechan mascot would work better.
>>
>>133054905
A good example would be to go read all of the monogatari series.
>>
>>133054905
Manga that's aimed at younger audiences (shounen) uses hiragana in place of kanji readers might not know
>>
>>133054905
Why didn't you read Tae Kim?
>>
>>133054905

Katakana: Used for foreign loanwoards and also for emphasis
Hiragana: Everything else except kanji, or cases where the kanji is too obscure/author too lazy, or kiddie-speak

Not rocket science. But you probably shouldn't be reading raws yet
>>
>>133054905
All three writing systems are used simultaneously. Hiragana after a kanji are usually verb terminations or so. Look up onyomi, kunyomi, jukugo and okurigana.
>>
>>133054813
Wellington is in New Zealand.
Therefore, Wellington is in New Zealand.

>>133054905
You will see them mixed often with verbs, where the okurigana is in hiragana. Think of it as a means of expressing emphasis. バレる is a common enough example.

It'd make sense if it was the person you were calling a stupid ドヤ saying ど... どやって言われても as a defence, but it seems to be used to directly refer to ドヤ e.g. pic related with stupid animals which make up most of the image search for the term.

Maybe they just mean it in the sense of "they'd be a ドヤ even if you told it to their face" I dunno, was just wondering ever since I found this new term.

I memorize the mnemonics word for word for years, but it takes minutes on end to go from mnemonic to concept. RTK was a complete mistake.
>>
>>133056689
Some god awful mnemonic. What blows my mind is A: they didn't even bother giving "organ plus small" its own radical when it shows up in a bunch of kanji, and B: they use RIBS as the name for the ソ looking motherfucker? It's a fucking variant of 刀, you stupid retards.

>person being called a ドヤ顔 s
You don't call someone a ドヤ顔. That doesn't even make sense. ~と言われても means "even if you say so", or more literally "even if I'm told that... (what can I do about it?)"
>>
>>133057020
Not only are you making extremely slow progress, you're actively hampering your understanding of the kanji by using complete bullshit radicals. Mnemonic based systems are fine, but not when they tear out all of the original hints and meanings. I bet it doesn't even mention that radicals often determine readings, it's overly simplistic garbage that's even worse than RTK because it's heavily restricted and costs money.
>>
>>133056544
Not even RTK is this fucking gay.
>>
>>133057119
it does
it often tells you "this has the same reading as this because the right half is the same as of this kanji you already know"

not saying it's perfect but having a kanji vocab learning combination is nice
>>
>>133057020
The radical on the right of 削 is the sword radical. That's a good name for it from a memorization point of view because it appears as an 意符 a lot of the time. Not only that, but if you ever want to talk about radicals it's better to know the name they actually go by than some random name that has nothing to do with its meaning.

I can't fathom a single good reason why somebody would call that rib and not sword. There are only downsides. It even looks more like a blade than it looks like ribs.
>>
>>133057229
There are much better options that are also free. Seriously, doing something like treating sword to the side as a completely different radical is absolutely insane, I can't imagine what they've done with shit like 水 and the left side of 浬.

In my case I save tons and tons of porn (i.e. nukige and h-games written in Japanese) and then have a fucking great time reading through them and making progress and not second-guessing my lifestyle at all.

it's "probably" fine if you're outside of Japan and not hosting anything, only a couple of guys have been arrested for it in Japan and none overseas.

still, using closed source file sharing software that downloads random data and has huge amounts of actual cp on there doesn't seem like the smartest idea to me
>>
>>133062687
So, why exactly does it need to make you download 20 GBs of malware before letting you use it?

What does your mining deck template looks like?
>>
>>133066084
Yeah, it's better to combine mining with 6k.
Most of the words in it are extremely useful.
>>
I feel like I'm going to have trouble remembering vocab and the reading. The way I'm doing it now is previewing the card in browse mode, writing down the word/reading/meaning, saying it a few times. Then I go do the card and go 10 min > 30 min > 1 day.

Is there a better way? Like studying a certain amount of cards the day before then doing them? Looking for options/different ways people have had success with retaining vocab.

だざいより、リチャード・バックがすきなんだよ。

骨と皮だけでもへいきさ。おにいちゃん
>>
>>133066284
What do you mean by better? You could get better retention by staring at the same word for 5 hours if that's all you care about.
>>
>>133066084
Because he said he doesn't want to do 6k, and the most commonly recommended alternative to that when using a premade deck is stopping at 2k (or at least slowing down) and shifting your vocab focus to mining.

>>133066158
Most of the words in it are common enough that you'll come across them in reading anyways, so it doesn't really matter too much as long as you're actually reading. Just up to personal preference I guess.
>>
>>133066284
I hit the "Study now" button and go 10 min > 1 day and it work fine to me. Modifier is also at 150% so I don't get swarmed by reviews. Was tough for the first 3 months or so, but now it's effortless.

Continue until desired amount of cards a day is met.

I'm currently 1st year in college majoring Japanese along with French
I'm ahead of the class atm and my professor's a bitch so I don't wanna ask her
I heard that you generally read words made out of entirely kanji with the on'yomi way, and words that contain both kanji and kana with the kun'yomi way
Is that true?
Then how about gaijin and koibito?
They're both entirely made out of kanji but one uses on and the other kun
Sorry for not posting runes I'm on my phone right now.
Could it be that gai and jin are two words fused into one and that's why?

Not everything follows the 'rule' 100%. Kanji alone is generally Kun, Kanji with hirgana is generally Kun, Kanji together is generally On. But there are always some exceptions.

>Even with math, best you can do is computer science which is a stupidly rough major to do here. Everything that isn't computer science is poorly paid
This stuff really gets at me. Over in the USA, computer science is unreasonably oversaturated. A CS major itself is worthless. Yet across europe, they're consistently more useful.
