Typo. Should be 70-117
>>124308989
How much old animu is available out there in insanely high res formats?
Watched Cyguard. Hilariously cheesy but fun. Plus short although I could've stood for it to be 3 eps instead of 1.
Been watching UY actually. On episode 7.
Also downloading the Maison Ikkoku BluRays, but I've already watched that.
>>124308989
What's up with the link are you supposed to to setup and time the subs yourself or some shit?
>>124309081
A lot. Most famous movies from the 80s/90s. Many OVAs from the 80s/90s have gotten the HD transfer treatment.
>>124309081
It varies. Tons of old series have blurays, but they all varry.
Best: Rescanned cel art
2nd Best: Remasters
3rd: Upscales
4th: any show where they cropped it down from 4:3 to 16:9 by removing 25% of the image from the top and bottom.
5th: The master keaton bluray box set.

>4th: any show where they cropped it down from 4:3 to 16:9 by removing 25% of the image from the top and bottom.
What in the fuck. W-W-WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS?
>>124309108
>>124308989
Also watching Urusei Yatsura. Love that cosmic cycler.
>>124309168
>5th: The master keaton bluray box set.
Tell me. I want to know the horror.

Doctors agree: Black bars filling up 40% of your $2000 60 inch plasma screen are the number one cause of autism today.
Tenchi Muyo OVA 2.
>>124309293
Though honestly, the Sailor Moon Bluray may be even worse.
>>124309354
Blurry, with lines fragmented everywhere.
What kind of abomination have they created?
>>124309490
I recall the 3x3 eyes bluray being pretty bad too, but it was just a really lazy upscale.
Big O was upscaled too, which is just sad.
>polishing a turd
Returning to Anne
Every time she start to cry... oh god my ears. These episodes were good.
Why do they even bother doing upscale blurays? An HD TV will automatically upscale DVD content. Might as well just keep putting out the DVDs.

What am I looking at exactly? A redraw? That's clearly not the same frame. Or even the same aspect ratio.
>>124309601
Is that from the SEED remaster?
>>124309703
>>124309601
How could that possibly qualify as a "remaster"?
>>124309814
Because sunrise
From screenshots it can look decent but I tried watching the remasterdubbed while I built gunplaand it is honestly hideous. But I guess it's good that the worst gundam series will end up as the lowest quality and ugliest in the long run.
It just sucks that all those early 2000s digipaint anime will never live up to the detail of cel animated shows or the 16:9 resolution and somewhat better quality shows that started to emerge as studios got more used to the new technology.
>>124309618
>VLCsnap
>avi file
Anon, there's been a bluray for awhile now. Don't do this to yourself.
>>124309966
Most studios STILL don't master at 720 from what I hear.
>>124309966
>It just sucks that all those early 2000s digipaint anime will never live up to the detail of cel animated shows or the 16:9 resolution
>tfw all my favorite shows are early 2000s digipaint anime

>Best: Rescanned cel art
that doesn't exist. most, if not all production cels were normally sold off or thrown away. only reason so many transfers look good is because they were captured on 16mm or greater film. 8mm contains roughly a 1000 vertical lines, so in theory any transfer to bluray should look better. the only real limiting factors are how much the original transfer has aged & how many layers were applied per scene, which makes the image increasingly more distorted.
That sailor moon bluray sure was something.
>>124310315
Meant rescanned film. 32MM would be best.
>>124310407
Is this what ghosting looks like?
>>124310315
>most, if not all production cels were normally sold off or thrown away.
>>124310652
That's not really that important is it? I mean if you have the film, what would you use the cels for again? Reducing dust?
>>124310652
Where the fuck would you store all of them?
>You will never pilot a valkyrie into battle against space-faring giant supermen while Lynn Minmay sings love songs over the radio
>>124310901
Gee, where would you store things?
>>124308989
Great Teacher Onizuka
>>124310987
Japan doesn't even have enough space for graveyards. Why would they store millions of cheap plastic sheets with ink on them that, at the time, no longer served a purpose.
>>124310436
technically 70mm film would be best, but I doubt any anime was ever shot in 70mm. and if there is one, it'd probably be something ghibli.
>>124310652
>not collecting cels
>not wanting to kill someone for deedlit cels going for nearly two fucking grand
>>124310901
>>124310987
in an underground vault, located in sweden?
>>124311074
Warehouses. People act like Japan's entire landmass is filled up but there are literally fields and forests everywhere. It's just the cities that are full and the fucks never heard of building out.
>>124311097
Please tell me that is edited and her eyes didn't really look like that in the ep.
>>124311299
that's the real deal. yahoo faggot just watermarked it, like every faggot scanning cels does. bunch of homos.
>>124311299
also, note her brows. this is when mc is having madhomolust for the king.
>>124308989
Just getting around to N&TH&T recently. It's pretty much what I was prepared for.

This is an interesting article about Master Keaton and its BDs. Too bad there aren't more popularizing or "awareness" articles about older anime like this.
