Otherway around, Ilya even commented how the Black Grail was fuck more powerful and dangerous. White Grails are supposed to shut down functions on a daily basis to stay sane and safe. This shit grail made out of worms and ductape somehow turned out to be a thousand times stronger than a real one in some wierd ways. Even within a typhoon of seven heroic souls that are each worth about ten thousand normal souls, it retained its ego, it didn't have any of the safety features of the normal grail yet it just wouldn't break.

Now that I think about it, the story is reliant on preserving the avenger twist (which is why none of the OPs posted have a single shot of him despite him being arguably the protagonist), it wouldn't work in a visual medium for the same reason Thief of Time wouldn't work in a visual medium.
I'm looking forward to whatever OP they'll make for the Tsukihime remake. Based on what we saw for the original Melty Blood and Actress Again, I can imagine it being pretty different from anything Fate's had.

So I've got a question about Bazett. She was in a time loop for god knows how long; living the same four days over and over trying to win the grail war with a shit-tier servant and her wits. We see throughout the story she slowly does make progress, and figures out various ways to beat servants and try and handle things, but ultimately, it never ends up being enough.
My issue though is rather with the mechanics themselves. You see in just about any time loop story one of the staples is that the protagonist usually ends up bettering themselves in some way, if not due to boredom, than due to making it easier to achieve their goal. Bazett was under the impression that she could have ended the loops basically any time she wanted right? She just wanted to keep on trying and complete her mission. She didn't know anything about the extra fluff, like how she was dead, and it was all a dream. So regarding this, why exactly did the story not show her training to better herself? Learning new things, new abilities, new magic. Whatever. I can't help but think of the movie Edge of Tomorrow, which had a protagonist who, basically at any point could have stopped his looping, but had a goal, and to accomplish that, he used his time to train and become stronger.
I mean with all the time in the world you'd think she would have naturally reached this conclusion at some point. Am I just misremembering something?

Learn what? She's already one of the best martial artists in the franchise so far, and mastering new spells would have taken fucking forever. And it's not like she's a novice. If she were a complete amateur, she would have shown steady improvements, but she's not. She's been at this shit for years, so it's not as if she would have shown significant improvement just by looping a few times. She's not like Shirou, who started out as a novice and made significant progress as his story went on. Any real advancement would have taken years for her. She's far past the stage where she'd show significant improvement after just a month or two of practice. Just slowly working through the loops was already testing her patience. Wasting time looking for an alternative method that wouldn't significantly bolster her chances was pointless. Let me explain to you just how ridiculous your scenario is here.
First off, improving her martial arts is meaningless. She is never going to beat a Servant in a straight fight no matter how hard she tries, so forget that. It's a futile endeavor no matter how much time she has.
So then, there's the other thing you mentioned: learn new spells. Okay, first off. Do you understand how long it takes even skill Magi to come up with and master new arts? CREATING a new spell could easily take decades. MASTERING it could take more. Most Magi inherit multiple lifetimes worth of research through their Thaumaturgical Crests, and spend the entirety of their own lives expanding on and improving it. What you're suggesting is that she come up with her own first generation thaumaturgy and master it. That could take YEARS.
Then, the other thing you mentioned, stealing techniques from the Tohsaka, Makiri or Einzberns. Again, learning that shit could take years, and there's the possibility that she wouldn't even be compatible with it, and she'd have the disadvantage of lacking the proper Crest to go with it, so she'd have to start everything from scratch.

Okay you are really latching on to the statement I made in my original post. It's not exactly about becoming more powerful, it's about exploring methods of reaching your goal, or trying to understand why you are trying to reach this goal, or anything.
See what's bothering me is that basically from the outset of the story, she concludes what she has to do is fight all the servants and claim the grail. Never once does she really realize she has, at least from what she can grasp at the time, almost infinite possibilities with this ability to loop.
So when Bazett is finally set free at the end did she really end up unemployed? Why wouldn't the church recall her back for other assignments?

Going off of the theory that there were 100% zero resources in the entire city of Fuyuki that could benefit her goal, why didn't she try and come to know and understand her opponents more? Get intel from them? Learn about the masters, the servants, how they tick. Hell, potentially get their help in doing so? Again, it just seems like from A to B she attacks other servants and repeatedly dies until she figures out a way to beat them.

She challenged the other Masters and Servants and got a feel for their abilities and styles. Little by little, she'd learn everything she could about those enemies and she'd use that knowledge in subsequent loops to finally defeat them. She managed to defeat multiple enemies with this method.
The main problem arose when she realized that no matter how hard she tried, the four day limit was just way too fucking limiting. No matter how well she knew her opponents, trying to win against all seven Masters and Servants within just four days was almost impossible. It was extremely difficult for her to get past all her enemies while minimizing damage to both herself and Avenger as much as possible. The was also the added handicap of not having enough rounds for Fragarach. Even if the rounds renewed themselves for each loop, the maximum number of uses she had with it would never be more than three. And she couldn't exactly depend on Avenger to defeat anyone, since he's shit.
That's when she decided to approach the Einzberns in order to get a broader picture of what was going on, and that's when things start going off the rails.

Alternate universes are irrelevant in this case. All of the Masters and Servants in the night portions of the four-day loop were based off of participants in the Third Heaven's Feel, which was the one Angra Mainyu was originally summoned for. The sisters who summoned two aspects of the same Servant, the midget-Assassin and "Ilya" were all based off of the participants of the fourth war. Aside from Shirou, whose confrontation with Bazett was one of the points where things really started going off the rails, as well as "Ilya", who had already dropped out from the war at that point as did her original counterpart in the Third War, there probably wasn't any other Master who would have considered teaming up with Bazett.

Shiki and Shirou (for all intents and purposes) are unaware for the most part that they're looping, which provides its own set of uses when setting up scenes and SoL segments, but it also cuts in a bit on the fun. Bazett was in an interesting position where she fully understood she was repeating the same four days, and the possibilities with that concept weren't really utilized.

When she was half mind-broken and still reeling from it she said directly she didn't do it, but if she had realized how this was going to turn out she would have and saved herself the pain. She was in no position where she would have lied there, she absolutely didn't in that position. In fact she was too honest with the second part of that comment.
In her mind-broken state Caster committed suicide by Saber, as there was nothing left to live for, while Saber misunderstood Caster's actions.
As they were about to leave Shirou noticed it felt like someone was watching them all along in that room. Hassan was born a scene earlier, and later on it was noted that Hassan was there at that time watching them in that moment. He mentioned something that could only come up if he was watching them at that time.
Caster while fearing the Shadow set up any number of barriers and watched them shattered, her guard dog destroyed, tried protecting Kuzuki from close range, only to watch him explode right in front of her by the servant just born as Zouken took Caster's corpse right after that.
Team Caster was mutilated by team wormpire. It was not Shadow that killed him either; it's noted it's method of killing is very different. Either there would be no body left, or it would have just drained the life force basically entirely in a forceful manner without killing the target. It was noted Shadow avoided killing anyone as it feared Gilgamesh, until it dealt with things that could rival its power. Up until a point Shadow only drained people, or fed off leftovers.
Only Hassan could have killed him in that moment, he was in the position, the reason, and it was left pretty clear with events that came later.
Just because they don't point everything out overt doesn't make it a plot hole.

Bazett's a bit too efficient to do what you're suggesting. There are three routes to F/SN; Nasu doesn't do "This is the only true one canon sequel because this is the only route that counts" type of shit. If he ever does a continuation then its for every route, like Ataraxia or Kagetsu.
He considers a story finished once its done though, Shirou's story ended as of F/SN, people that think it needs a sequel are a bit foolish in that way. Any Fate that has came out beyond that has been someone elses story.
They can't keep going with Shirou's story and say "This is the one true canon route, this is the one he ended up on because its the sequel", like some fans want. Say what you will about Nasu, but he's pretty fair, he doesn't fuck over one group of fans for another like that.
If he made a sequel that followed one route, you know that group of fans would suddenly become assholes "This is the real and true route now".

Only ones we see in the real world are Arc and Shiki, neither of which are dead in any of those endings. Saying that "It can't be this because they're dead in the real world" is assuming a bit in a way. Nothing that isn't shown can't be used so much, Shiki doesn't talk about whether someone is dead or not in the outside world in the few times we see him in the real world. They can be alive again in the dream.
Not sure how to push that point enough to sink in, but lets say it followed Hisui's Normal ending. Lets say he got to know arc later through some coincidence there later as she was still in town somehow, maybe Akiha or Kohaku are dead, now he didn't say anything about them being alive or dead so much in the real world segments perhaps, so its left open entirely. If something isn't stated, it isn't proof of anything. Even if he imagines them alive in the dream, it isn't proof of much.
Although if they were following a Hisui ending it would be Good ending, as clearly they did that in one of the Ten Nights stories, just like they did with Akiha's True ending.
So there's almost no way they would be going with the ending where everyone is dead in the first place, they'd go with the better ending.

So it could only take place in either Arcueid Good or Ciel Good. Most likely Arcueid Good.
