Aizen 'killing' Momo was such a shocking moment of betrayal and then they went and had her be 'only injured' way into the ark, and it just sucked a lot of the drama right out of the whole Aizen thing. Oh, ok, all those people we saw 'dead' were just injured because the writer is a tremendous pussy. So I guess any time a non-villain dies I can just assume they'll be revived eventually. Fucking dropped.
Kamina's death on the other hand really changed the whole pace of the anime. His sacrifice shaped the resolve of other characters, even a villain. Now that makes for a powerful narrative.

This. Some of the saddest things I've read had more weight by noting that the events happened "under a clear blue sky." Elie Wiesel's "Night" does this.
