Well yeah, things suddenly being patched up was a huge fucking plothole. Especially considering Earth was starting to go on the offensive and just won their biggest battle yet (moon base). The only plausible explanation is if someone (probably Cruhteo, as Hime isn't that smart) were able to spin the whole "It was all Slaine's fault" thing into "an earthling actually did instigate the war, including by attacking the princess, therefore Vers is not at fault".
Of course Earth buying it would be yet another plothole.
However at the very least the Slaine/Hime development was semi believable. Slaine's entire goal was to free the princesses from being used as tools for Aldnoah, but Princess declaring herself empress was basically her choosing to fully wield her authority and power herself.
Slaine could have easily challenged her and probably won out for the earthspace, but instead backed down because (as he mentioned when she woke up) the princess is once again his only concern and Earth/Vers people can go fuck themselves.

S2 pissed me off so much, since it delivered nothing on what was set up earlier.
It may be a shock to think about, but AZ in the beginning was set to be a bit of a genre-breaker that does things you don't expect. The good guys are hopelessly outclassed underdogs, and got fucked in the ass just like hopelessly outclassed underdogs. The MC had a piece of shit mech and only won because the bad guys are retarded (which was acknowledged by the show and is a realistic flaw built into their society structure). It would hint at a plot twist or great dramatic reveal to happen in the next episode, but then nothing would happen and it takes the realistic/boring path instead.
What does it do with that? Fucking nothing. The ending is super generic and shallow, and both Inaho's and Slaine's characters make no fucking sense. That's not even mentioning side characters like Rat and Book. Why the hell did they even exist? It's clear that Urobutchi had a pretty unique and clear idea of where to take AZ, but the main writer had no fucking clue what to do with it. This is probably the most disappointing anime of our generation.
