The best part about the Naruto story, is that at the end of the story; literally nothing was accomplished. Absolutely NOTHING of value was accomplished.
Tens of thousands of people died over the years, hundreds of thousands many more died during the final war. Relationships were ruined, world was royally fucked over, and everything tore through many dimensions of space-time and back, all so that nothing could be accomplished.

Various countries are now at peace, and not in an only symbolic way like "We'll sign this peace treaty for now, but we're still going to kill each other soon". Not it means a bit more as they've all sort of come together under the same flag a bit more. if they get that sorted out more it won't be much of an issue in the future, villages won't send out contracts against other villages as long as they keep in touch well.
Of course world peace won't ever happen like that because that's just not how people work. But they're a bit better off than where they were. Also the two soul brothers that incarnate through the ages are finally at peace a bit. Some elements from the past that used to cause trouble throughout the ages aren't as much of an issue anymore.
It's like an SMT Neutral ending; it's not perfect, but its a new beginning, the elements are in place where shit can work out now as long as you put in the effort. Keep the bonds strong and shit, don't let relations between villages fall at this point. This war will be remembered in history.
Civilizations have become more modern as we see in the last chapter, even ten years later its still relatively peaceful as Tenten says. All the Kages are keeping in touch and keeping close, that's the first step to doing it right.
Always leaders keep in touch, and maybe the wars will be a bit less "Lets take over that guy" on a sudden thing. You know that guy now, you're friends with him, you can talk this through perhaps. Rather than jumping into it ever.

It's not like I'm planning to change so much, but I kind of want to see this story play out for now to see if I get an answer out of it myself".
Hokage's were needed for the ending there with Madara and shit, since they plug into that. Which also ties in with Madara's whole plot and how shit tends to repeat through the ages as hatred just repeats until someone finally (does whatever the meaning towards this all was).
He ran off at the end, maybe cleared of his crimes since technically he did save the world, or maybe he wasn't. He's doing his own thing again, maybe still doing the same thing, either way.
