Given the complaints many /a/nons have towards modern shows (Generic Teenage MCs, Wish fullfilement, gary stus, forced fanservice), what does /a/ think of the Getter Robo shows? (mainly Armageddon, Shin vs Neo and New Getter Robo). It doesn't follow any of the mentioned cliches and it's awesome as all hell
I've only seen New Getter. It was alright, Ryoma was a great MC though
Getter Robo? More like Ghetto Robo, am I right? I kid. The shows are okay. It's worth watching once, but no more than that.

The OVA's are fairly enjoyable if all you want is a good ol' dose of crazy action, but the manga is by far the better work. It's a shame they'll never properly adapt it.

The final battle was pretty fucking hype and New Getter is one of my favorite designs but it probably should of been shorter. The Seimei arc dragged on a bit too much.

Only Saotome was a scientist, the other 2 were Invaders.
Armageddon isn't perfect, in fact I'd say it actually has quite a few problems.
But it was the first Getter animated production that managed to capture the insanity of the manga.

Pretty much sums up the OVA's. Wouldn't have it any other way except a full adaption of the manga.

Haven't watched the any Getter anime besides Armageddon, which was a bit disappointing. I've read all the manga though, and Go was my favorite.

Reminder than Ken Ishikawa's Kyomu Senki is being scanlated by Dynamic Pro Scanlations.
Some say it's as good as Getter Robo Saga. Like Saga, it's a compilation of stories by Ishikawa.

I thought all 3 OVAs were equally great. Also, we simply can't talk about the Getter OVAs without mentioning Shin Jeeg and Mazinkaiser SKL.
And if we're talking about Kawagoe's mecha directorial work, we also have stuff like Transformers Energon, Super Robot Wars OG The Animation, Innocent Venus and EX Driver.
Innocent Venus could have been much better, but the story didn't go anywhere unfortunately, and Jin should have really stopped playing the Piano.

There's also the Cyborg 009 2001 anime which he did, which is arguably pretty good.
If he could do something like this for Ishinomori, I'm sure Kawagoe could have done a similar faithful manga representation for Getter Robo.
Too bad most of you think he's a trashy director, and would rather suck Imagawa's dick (Which I like too, but actually doesn't detract my love for the works Kawagoe did)
