Do you prefer English names or Japanese names for titles?
>>
I'm more likely to remember an English name. I mainly dislike ridiculously long names.
>>
It depends completely on the title and who actually decides to use it. What would be the point in using the title that no one remembered or recognized?
>>
>>121788652
I'm fine with English, except for when it translates bad or has grammar problems.
>>
As someone who has suffered through years of shitty movie name localizations i must say that i prefer to keep the original name, obviously there are situations where this is just not feasible. Oreimo and Haganai come to mind.
>>
It depends on the title.

I rarely remember names anyway. Unless /a/ give them a epic meme nickname. Otherwise it's just MC/best girl/MC's sister, etc
>>
>>121788954
Same. I mean, who the hell calls it Jojo No Kimyou Na Bouken ?
>>
It depends on the title. Regardless, the important thing to remember is to search for all permutations of the name when trying to download it. Like Time of Eve versus Eve no Jikan. Hell, I have my folder for it labeled "Time of Eve no Jikan".
>>
>>121788623
S2 when?
>>
Japanese unless the name is something long or stupid, then i'll be more inclined to say the English name.
>>
>>121789421
Hopefully fucking never
>>
Japanese name unless it's something very easily translated to English, or a character's name.

Something like spice and wolf is an obviously better name, while translating "yotsubato" to "404 girl &" is retarded.
>>
>>121788997
>Which show are you talking about?
>MC's sister
>>
I don't speak Japanese, I speak English.

I rarely remember Japanese titles.

Did you hit your head recently?
>>
This was already discussed to hell and back in other threads, but i guess it fits this thread.
You have to choose one
>Jitsu wa Watashi wa
>Actually, I am a...(or other variations like The Truth Is I am...)
>My Monster Secret
>>
>>121790060
>My Monster Secret
Jesus fucking christ. I understand why they did it, but still. Shit like this is why I'm glad I'm learning Nip.
>>
Most of the time japanese, but there are exceptions:
>S&W
>jojo
>Tatami Galaxy
>>
>>121790116
You're glad you're learning a language completely out of the Indo-European family so you can avoid the minor inconvenience of a slightly awkward title?
>>
>>121790238
Neon Genesis Evangelion
>>
>>121790289
Yes, I'm learning a language with a completely different grammar system because of the mild hassle of titles. I'm not planning on using it to read anything aside from titles, that would be silly.
>>
>>121788623
i can't remeber Japanese names at all
just binge watched NGE and the names i can remeber are;
Asuka,Sinji Ikiari,Rei and Misoka? isn't that her name
>>
>>121790499
just google checked and it's Misato and Ikari
lel i can't remember these names
>>
>>121789825
No shit that's retarded. Yotsuba is a name that doesn't even mean that. It means "four leaf"

i have no bias over english vs japanese names as long as the title is translated into english properly. you have no idea how fucking irate i was when Baka and Test Summon the Beasts came over with such a title. i shit myself in anger. one of my favorite shows and it's permanently stuck with this shitty half translated flat out WRONG title.
>>
>>121790656
That was supposed to be a joke?
I thought it was just you being stupid.

Korean.
Names like 내 여동생이 이렇게 귀여울 리가 없어 sounds great.
Also German, Swedish and sometimes Polish are nice too.

English. Only /a/nus likes to show off Japanese names in their folder list when it is clearly identifiable by the English name.
>>
>>121788623
If the original source gives an English title, then English, otherwise Japanese.

>>
>>121790847
You do realise that Nips are terrible at English titles? They either directly translate words to hilariously poor choices or hire someone to do it for them. Think "attack on titan".
>>
Depends on the show.

>Maria the Virgin Witch
>Junketsu no Maria
>"Purity of Maria"?
>>
>>121790840
>Nichijou
>English
Why can't you see that the english title "My Ordinary Life" is much better.

Also,
As Long as There's Love, It Doesn't Matter if He Is My Brother, Right!?
>>
>>121790840
>Psychopathic Girl and Adolescent Boy
But that's completely wrong.

I like how Ika Mususme is highlight becuse you know that you're fucking wrong.

Whatever /a/ calls it.

So usually the English name for old stuff and Japanese name for seasonal.
>>
>>121788954
This, it depends
>>
>>121788623
I don't give a fuck as long as I can easily find the thread for it.
>>
People who use only English titles are retarded.
People who use only Japanese titles are weebs.

You use whatever it's best known by.
don't call GiTS "Kōkaku kidōtai"
don't call Nichijou "My Ordinary Life"
>>
I love Cat Planet Cuties and Yamada's First Time
>>
>>121788623
English name when I'm speaking English. For that matter, I only use an English title if the Japanese material uses one, like Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, or Attack On Titan. Most people I know don't know anything about comics, Japanese or otherwise, and I mostly read Hana to Yume, Bessatsu HanaYume, LaLa, and LaLa DX, so no one knows any of my favorites, anyway, so I can get away with using whatever I want to use.
>>
>>121790685
They should've changed the title to keep up with the original reference to Class of Heroes, to be honest.
>>
I always found it kind of strange that some series are constantly referred to in English and some in Japanese. I mean absolutely nobody on /a/ refers to JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken, while at the same time nobody ever calls it "Future Diary" unless they're trolling, while both are reasonably accurate translations.
>>

Japanese unless its like Boku ore no watashi wa you shock ore Imouto kaichou then you can give me the english title.
>>
English
>>
>>121794772
Because one title is long and involves particles, and the other one is short and easy to remember. Plus, mirai nikki is weeb friendly, because it makes them feel like they've learned 2 Japanese words.
>>
>>121794772
Some titles just plain sound better in English and others don't. Jojo full title is better in English while Future Diary is utter shit.
>>
depends. for shorter/memorable names I stick to nip, but for longer ones I either say it in english or shorten it in nip (yushibu rather than Yūsha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shūshoku o Ketsui Shimashita)
>>
>>121790780
To me it will always be Heldensagen Vom Kosmosinsel...
>>
>>121792227
This.
>>
The only one I can think of where there's no real consensus is Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star
>>
I never discuss about anime in IRL, my native language isn't English, I learned Japanese few years ago and I listen to web radios all the fucking time (where everbody obviously uses Japanese titles), so I have no reasons to use English titles. That being said, on /a/ I do use the ones with iconic, fitting and official names like The World God Only Knows.

>>121790976
>The term "denpa" (電波?, "electromagnetic waves") [...] derives from the Fukagawa Street Murders in 1981. The assailant, Kawamata Gunji, was using illicit substances when he slashed random bystanders in broad daylight, killing two housewives and two toddlers, and injuring many others. When confronted in court, he explained that electromagnetic waves (denpa) were telling him to kill people, and pleaded insanity.

Anyone who knows Japanese and watched the show?
It's literally "I don't understand what my husband says -ken".
>>
I feel like a title of a film or show shouldn't be like the title of a damn lab report.

Short, sweet and to the point, whether it's in Japanese or English.

Shows that have super long titles to try and be quirky really irritate me, something like "How Can My Little Sister be So Cute?" or "When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace" are inexcusably bad titles.

Berserk is an awesome title. Once you have passed three words, your title has a problem.
>>
>>121788623
>Do you prefer English names or Japanese names for titles?

Hmmm

>Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!
or
>Watamote

This is a tough choice.
>>
>>121795693
They get portmanteaus anyway if they have long-ass titles. Plus those are usually LN so the title is a chuuni as the author.
>>
>>121790840
>RWBY
>SAO
>MEME! MEME! MEME!
>>
A mixture, depending on which names are easier to say or more distinctive or sound better. Sometimes localisations are better (Ghost In The Shell as opposed to Mobile Armored Riot Police), sometimes I prefer the Engrish (Inou Battle in Everyday Life).

I'll usually use whatever the people I discuss it with most use (so /a/, in this case).

I'm more interested in knowing who steadfastly sticks to only one choice, and why.

>>121795731
>Seitokai Yakuindomo

English names. The Japanese have a penchant for long and specific names that they end up just shortening when speaking about them. Maybe just don't make them so long in the first place?
>>
>>121790840
>RWBY
>VLC
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>121788623
Depends on which sounds better, which did I hear first and which is most recognized.
>>
>>121788623
If there isn't a standard portmanteau like Saikano, OreImo or Toradora, I go for a compromise.
>Shinmai Maou no Testament
>The Uchouten Family
>Princess Mononoke
>Kyoudai Brothers
>>
Japanese when I hate the localized title. Like Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, that name sounds like total ass.
