I bet you think JJ Abrams is a good director
>>
What makes good cinematography? Any example anyone would agree on?
>>
>>121275942
I'm sure that's what they were aiming for.
>>
>>121276107
It's just HDR-tier flare and gently rocking camera movement.

If you want actually good cinematography from a TV anime, watch something like GitS.
>>
>>
>>121276474
>>121276768
The flare's there to make it look like a stageplay.

The rocky camera movement is there to represent the point of view of a shaken audience looking at a play.

>TV anime
>GITS

You meant the movie. SAC didn't have much good cinematography.
>>121276495
Any "camera" use, attention to "extras", use of scenery/atmosphere building, presentation of an event, etc... that is well used for the purpose of a show.

>>121276517
Of course it was, if you didn't get it the first time.

Why do you think the mat and the character is the only thing being lit up, while Araragi and the other girl are looking while they're in the dark?

It's set up like a stageplay. Fuck you're retarded. Anyone with basic knowledge of cinematography would know this.

>>121277064
Explain your point instead of /tv/-tier reply.

Showing just pictures doesn't help your point. You need to show a video as evidence.

Typical retarded response.

Here's a hint: Your assemblage of pictures isn't evidence good cinematography because it doesn't show how long the anime decides to spent time on each image.

Now you might you to relax your asshole until I'm done fucking it.

I don't think anyone in this thread knows what cinematography even means.
>>
>>121277603
>Why is it good cinematography?
Alright. I will bite.

>Excellent shot composition, which takes inspiration from various east and south asian films of the time period
>Well-paced, deliberate animation conveys the mood more powerfully than having dialogue or an imposed monologue might
>Single-shot for over 7 seconds (though I don't have the film on-hand to check how long the full scene is) reflects the thoughtfulness and contemplative aspect of this portion of the film

Meanwhile, the Monogatari scene has:

>This intentionally looks like a stage play

Why does it matter that it looks like a stage play? What is the point, other than for appearances? Does it actually reflect something or was it done to look cool? (These points are rhetorical, since we're dealing with Shinbo here.)
>>
>>121278578
>Why does it matter that it looks like a stage play?

Because the whole anime (being adapted from LN written in verse) is structured in acts. It fits as the act closes to make it look like a stageplay.

>Well-paced, deliberate animation conveys the mood more powerfully than having dialogue or an imposed monologue might

I don't disagree with the two other points but the reason I asked why in the context of the movie.

So what is the mood of the movie that this scene conveys and how does it related to the movie?

All movies are is a series of still photos, yes there are elements that only multiple such stills combined can convey but everything else in cinematography such as lighting, deigesis, angle, etc all still apply to a single frame

You really should take a film study class before replying

It is pretty standard if you don't want something bit starved. Go look on nyaa or bakabt and you will find the common groups who release 1080p BD movie releases are around 7-8gb a lot of the time. Then you have Coalgirls who will release 10gb+ movie releases
