My point is, they just witnessed Sayaka - Madoka's best friend actually - die as a witch, a few seconds later Kyouko and Mami are dead too, Madoka herself killed Mami, who she also saw as a good friend and role model and who just went berserk killing Kyouko and trying to kill Homura. And what does she do? Start crying like a baby "I don't want this anymore". If you just killed one of your friends with your own hands after witnessing the death of two of other friends right before that you don't just cry like a baby whose diapers are full, especially if you have a positive and sunny character like Madoka. She should've gone into full shock apathy, that would have been the only believable reaction.
I don't blame Homura's lack of empathy though, she probably went through that too often already.

Actually, timeline 3 was the only one where Madoka got some real character development. When I first saw it I hated her for selfishly asking Homura to kill her and go back in time and save her, but as I think about it now 3rd Madoka is probably the only likable one. It's refreshing to see something like that compared to her Jesus Christ shit later and earlier.
Also, timeline 3 is the one where Homura and Madoka where more or less on equal footing, so that's that too.

And to be honest, I'm not sure if she even slept at all, being Meguca.
Her iron will is the main reason I fell in love with her, even though I am a weak willed fool.
Maybe because of that.
Hell, I one tried to study and work 12 hours a day +at night and sleep no more then 2 or 3 hours a day(or not at all, if possible) in order to be more like Homu. I managed to do that only for three months, and in the end I broke down and dropped it all. Meanwhile, Homura managed to do it for 12 fucking years.
I guess that fighting for the sake of the one you love is a stronger motivation then merely imitating that person, while knowing you will never even meet her.
Also, Homura knew that everything she does theoretically brings her closer to her goal. While I worked in a job I didn't need and studied subjects I wasn't interested in that have nothing to do with Homu at all. I guess this is my only excuse.
