Q: What did you think when you read the script for this movie?
A: It was a series of surprises with all of the Hinata focus!! To think I was waiting for a future like this…! Patience pays off after 15 years*! There’s a saying about how even the coldest rock will warm up if sat on for three years—except Mizuki says 15 years. I went with the figurative meaning.)
Q: What did you think when you saw Naruto and Hinata as adults?
A: Naruto-kun has gotten super tall and manly… my heart was pounding over just that, like I had spent a really long time with Hinata (laughs). Hinata also had become increasingly more womanly, and I could also feel a dignified type of strength from her, like she had really matured… so I was happy. While playing her, I could feel that maturity, yet her feelings for Naruto-kun remained unchanged… that’s the kind of quality about Hinata that I want to hold dear. Playing her this time was difficult, but the climax scene with Naruto-kun was fun to say the least!! I was filled with a sensation I had never had until now, like I was experiencing things as Hinata, so I had all kind of feelings rushing around. It was so deeply moving.

Iruka or Ramenguy treating him once is probably the first happy thing to ever happen to him. Given that there was a suki/daisuki misunderstanding moment not long before Hinata's confession it could be kinda argued that there's grounds for him to mistake her words as 'you are a person who brings happiness to me/inspires me' instead of a confession of romantic love - or at least that he could interpret her words that way out of sheer emotional skepticism and being used to being unloved.
Much like with the idea of the genjutsu/scarf thing, the only one to blame is Kishi because he could not handle his characters kiss while 16. The movie staff had to come up with something to explain all that shit and they did a relatively fine job.
As for Hinata being aloof, there is a fair reason for that. Not only is she worried about Hanabi, she has some important shit to think through with Netori and Sage's Brother both having bombarded her with info to sort out.
I do see where you are coming from, the movie could and should have been much better. It didn't quite know what it was doing and I get the feeling it was meant to be longer, only to be cut down. At the same time however it does pull off the final part of Naruto's character arc, gives Hinata more depth and has her finally get the attention of her husbando by showing off her lovely, lovely upper arms.

Well I did not have high expectations for this movie to begin with. I mean we knew Kishis was a prude and fucked up many possibilities of bringing those two together. Normally it would happen right after Pain arc, I think right than Sakura should have started to act like she does in the movie. She and the others knew from that point onward that Hinata loves Naruto. So she, and the others, should make an effort to teach Naruto, or at least explain to him, the thing or two about emotions. As simple as that. If he gets it, cool. If it would take him some time, well too bad, but at least the emotional situation is clear. Sakura is suddenly a better character, coz failfession does not happen. Naruto can start to learn something about the difference between loving food, and loving a person. Even better, he could be able to discuss it with his mother during the Kurama training. The posibilities were endless. If that was the case, the movie would just be about Naruto saving his girlfriend from that one asshole who came from the moon. And he would already be with her for two years. Which would make Narutos emotion more believeable than "I saw it in genjutsu, so I love you now."
But I am overthinking it a bit. For what we got, I say the movie was a pretty enjoyable experiance.

You have to consider the following though. Naruto is a fucking brickhead. Hinata confesses to him during pain arc, now Japanes suki/daisuki have more than one meaning because you can very well use it to describe more trivial things like the fact that you like beer, you'd just say biru ga suki desu, and on deeper emotional level it can mean that you love someone. Naruto never heard that word used in that deeper context towards him.
So the movie is not about falling in love with Hinata, it's about final realization what love really is and realizing that he loves Hinata in romantic way that he was not aware of before.

I mean it worked in the movie, so why wouldn't it work back than, if 9 people around you are all explaining it as well as they can. I counted in the fact that he is emotionally retarded, so it would take him some time, and thats why I think (if the scenario I am talking about did happen) his talk with Kushina would be even more fruitfull than it was. Than the realization, which happens in the movie, would happen in the manga.
