I'm annoyed that they hamfisted some shitty drama in the first place, and then made one of the most jarring tonal shifts I can remember. I wish they had never killed Kisaragi in the first place, but since they did it they could at least follow through. Anime takes a huge proportion in a franchises when it comes into being. Its success or failure always affects others-yes, even its source material- and people have seen this in so many other franchises. This is one of the reasons why Zun never allows a Touhou animation. The smart thing to do with a franchise as nonsensical and dependent on fan interpretations as this would be to make the anime very experimental and episodic. Each episode could focus on a different setting, mood, and characters; rather than trying to tie it all into one mess of a plot. That way fans might still enjoy the rest if one fucks up, and you don't run the risk of ruining it by establishing something as official. I think even Touhou could make a great anime if handled like that.

Kancolle Doorblog or some KC-related sites are far more accurate since they play the game. As a primary myself and speaking in behalf of players, this episode was satisfying in terms of depicting Kongou's nature, and Mutsuki was able to cope herself from Kisaragi's loss by not shoehorning the show furthe with more unnecessary melodrama.
