Why was Utena the best anime ever?
It unquestionably has the best cast of characters in anime where everyone is relevant in providing a new facet to other characters as well as parallels to form more complex character relationships. It has the best use of symbology in anime, it is a perfect mixture of minimalism and maximalism, it is the most thematically rich anime out there, it has the best directing where so many shots can emphasize certain points, stir ambiguity and express unspoken thoughts and emotions like through body language, every episode is relevant gradually adding to the characterisation of the cast and providing allegories that all intertwine with the main theme of the series, it has an incredibly surreal atmosphere, it's theatrically aware and uses this to criticize the 'fake' nature of regular drama as well as mislead the viewers on multiple occasions and the series has the best ending ever.
