So /a/, you're in charge of making the next great historically based anime with the following guideline:
>no Nobunaga
>no Romance of 3 Kingdoms

What is your genre and what is your time period?

The Oda clan is taking over Japan, but there is no Nobunaga. Nobunaga is actually a boogeyman invented by several high-ranking generals so that when they are defeated in battle, they can push the blame on someone else. There is no romance in any of these kingdoms.

>Millions of people in China were violently persecuted during the Cultural Revolution. Those identified as spies, "running dogs", "revisionists", or coming from a suspect class (including those related to former landlords or rich peasants) were subject to beating, imprisonment, rape, torture, sustained and systematic harassment and abuse, seizure of property, denial of medical attention, and erasure of social identity. At least hundreds of thousands of people were murdered, starved, or worked to death. Millions more were forcibly displaced. Young people from the cities were forcibly moved to the countryside, where they were forced to abandon all forms of standard education in place of the propaganda teachings of the Communist Party of China

Aleister Crowley as the legendary shitposter of WWII.

>He actually made a living off it for awhile. He got hired by British intelligence to infiltrate a German newspaper in America and make them sound retarded. He spent years releasing the most ridiculous shit, like declaring independence for Ireland and comparing the Kaiser to Jesus.

>Also there's this, Crowley loved this.

>I have been over forty years engaged in the administration of the law in one capacity or another. I thought that I knew of every conceivable form of wickedness. I thought that everything which was vicious and bad had been produced at one time or another before me. I have learnt in this case that we can always learn something more if we live long enough. I have never heard such dreadful, horrible, blasphemous and abominable stuff as that which has been produced by the man (Crowley) who describes himself to you as the greatest living poet.
>Justice Swift, in Crowley's libel case.

>Also apparently he did shit like encourage Germany to sink the Lusitania in order to get the U.S. into the war, started a plot to overthrow Spain, and helped keep British dominion over Ireland and India. Declassified documents are a wonderful thing.

The Japanese/Mongol wars, where the japanese cast keeps training for battle to defeat the big evil guys who statistically are sure to win, only for the entire Mongol fleet to get wiped out by storms before reaching Japanese shores.
It's a light-hearted comedy that parodies/touches upon being a serious war drama/shounen.

Old mentor: "I was going to retire as a soldier, but now that war has come it looks like I can't. Oh well, it can wait until after our enemies are vanquished."

A alternate history of Europe starting with the Thirty Years War, perhaps tied into the Girls und Panzer universe.
In this universe King Gustav of Sweden is not killed at Lutzen in 1632. He survives but is crippled and has to retire to Sweden as his injuries leave him unable to ride a horse or use a weapon. He largely retires to his estates leaving the administration of government to his trusted minister Axel Ostenterna.
Then in 1636 the Swedish armies in Germany suffer the massive defeat at the Battle of Nordlingen against Spanish troops. Gustav, feeling the whole Protestant/Swedish cause in Europe failing enlists his ten year old tomboy daughter to be his arms and legs.
As such in 1640 Princess Christina becomes the first woman in modern Europe to actually command a major army when still barely in her teens. As a body guard her father raises a troop of young women, first from across Scandinavia and then from across Protestant Europe, who accompany her as armored cavalry. Her success at the head of the Swedish arms results in copycat units of female cavalry across all the non-Calvinist parts of Europe. And thus bringing into the European world the limited acceptance of woman practicing mounted combat which ultimately leads to seshado/panzerfahren in the GuP universe.

What? Hannibal never admitted he was inferior to Scipio. What really happened is that he and Scipio met at a banquet. Scipio asked him who the greatest generals in history were, and Hannibal said "1. Alexander, 2. Pyhrrus, 3. Hannibal".

Scipio said, "So where would you rank if you'd actually beaten me?" and Hannibal replied "#1, of course".

It's 1999. Everyone's got money, everyone is happy, only a couple small conflicts globally, and the internet is becoming a household thing. He clearly implied that Scipio was the greatest

>Africanus asked who, in Hannibal's opinion, was the greatest general of all time. Hannibal replied, "Alexander...because with a small force he routed armies of countless numbers, and because he traversed the remotest lands...' Asked whom he placed second, Hannibal said: 'Pyrrhus. He was the first to teach the art of laying out a camp. Besides that, no one has ever shown nicer judgement in choosing his ground, or in disposing his forces. He also had the art of winning men to his side...' When Africanus followed up by asking whom he ranked third, Hannibal unhesitatingly chose himself. Scipio burst out laughing at this, and said: 'What would you be saying if you had defeated me?'
>'In that case,' replied Hannibal, 'I should certainly put myself before Alexander and before Pyrrhus - in fact before all other generals!'
>This reply, with its elaborate Punic subtley...affected Scipio deeply, because Hannibal had set him apart from the general run of commanders, as one whose worth was beyond calculation
>>
>>120130968

laffo, what kind of revisionist bullshit is this? He was saying Scipio was unworthy of being listed. Which, considering Hannibal did beat Scipio once in Italy and was defeated more by his chronic supply problems than Scipio's generalship, was clearly the stab of his argument. I've never seen it suggested before that he was complimenting Scipio.

it's pretty obvious anon that if hannibal would rank himself higher than alexander and pyrrhus for defeating scipio that he held him in really high esteem
furthermore Scipio wasn't leading the army that was defeated in Italy, he was a simply officer
Of course Scipio was going to win the battle of Zama because of the state of the war but what makes him standout is his campaign in Iberia which was beyond brilliant

As someone who personally specifically studied the revolutionary period in China, the Maoist period is hugely misrepresented in western pop-history. All you hear is the bad and sure there was a lot of it, but the Maoist period also saw some of the largest positive changes in the lives of the Chinese people and people in general in history.

The numbers are always grossly exaggerated in western popular history books and always take the worst case scenarios which have little statistical evidence backing them up.

The vast majority of Chinese supported Mao and this is never, ever taught in the west. The awful things that happened only ever effected a tiny fraction of the population, most of the population only saw huge benefits, especially Women.

What do I think of Pol Pot? A crazed Ethnocentrist Nationalist who wished too ethnically cleanse Cambodia of all Non-Khmer?
What the fuck does Pol Pot have too do with anything? Especially China? The dude was supported by the United States and Britain ffs.

Historical/Action/Drama
An anime on the Napoleonic wars.
First half of S1 is all about Napoleons rise to power from the madness and chaos of the revolution, depicting him as the epitome of doing well by doing good.
Second half of S1 would be about Britain's fear and response to a united continent under Napoleon culminating in the Battle of Trafalger when Horatio Nelson gives his famous last signal and wrecks the shit out of Fraco-Spanish fleet.
S2 would have a time skip of several years and the first half focuses on the land exploits of the glorious Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular campaign.
Next quarter of S2 focuses on home front of England and the aftermath of England with shots of Napoleon planning something big on Elba. Last quarter of the anime focuses on the Hundred days, culminating in Battle of Waterloo where we get to see all the badassery that happens.

Serious suggestion that will be drowned out by trolls, but one about the Meiji restoration. A short series that sees the British, French and Americans coming to Japans shores. It starts out with Matthew Perry's Black Ships forcing open Japans borders. From that point onward we follow various Japanese protagonists (a monk, a housewife, a young child, a carpenter, a samurai etc.) through this period and see how their lives change. The monk is forced to somehow unite the old ways with this strange western technology, the housewife is suddenly able to get an education, the child ends up growing up in an entirely different world than his parents, the carpenter has a lot easier time doing his work thanks to western technology but also sees himself forced to compete with an international market that has been using these tools for century, and finally the samurai sees himself becoming obsolete.

Considering it'll be a Japanese team of writers and animators doing this, they can probably shove in a bit of social commentary themselves.

>(Important too note that the Chinese Revolutionary period articles are almost entirely maintained exclusively by Taiwanese lol)

You know whats funny about that? You might call it Taiwanese anti-China shitslinging, but the fact that the Chinese are so reluctant to officially acknowledge what happened during that time period might also indicate that some seriously bad shit was going on. They're also unwilling to acknowledge that some really bad shit might have happened at Tienanmen Square.

Many recollections of the Cultural Revolution are personal memoirs, not official histories, and most of them describe very bad things. The nature of the movement was very "anti-intellectual" and anybody who could be associated with the "bourgeois" was vulnerable to criticism and abuse. People who owned certain books were seen as intellectuals/bourgeois/"captialist roaders" and labelled enemies of the state. You could imagine that, in an environment like that, academic historical accounts of the events would be lacking. People would be unwilling to engage in such documentation for fear of their lives.

Adventure set during the American gold rush.

MC has no future in hometown, and so he and his best friend seeks their fortunes in the golden hills of California. They sets forth with nothing but the clothing on their backs and determination to strike it rich.

Along the way, they joins up with a brash fellow prospector/comic relief and a cute Native girl MC accidentally marries whom doesn't speak a word of English, and a older trader & his wife who are heading to the boomtown to set up a shop.

Episodes would follow the one-piece model where there is an overarching goal (the quest for gold!) with some detours like
-Peyote fueled dream-scape episode where group tries to find his spirit guide (results in MC accidentally marrying the Indian girl when he wakes up next to her naked)
-Trying to help comic relief-kun cure his dysentery
-Teaching Indian girl proper English because she only knows lewd words
