They mostly fight monsters, yes, they use the knights mostly like infantry armed with swords, axes, shields, lances, ect.
Big giant mecha, they use some magic, but the mecha are the big anti monster things. Offensive magic is nice outside of a mech but since piloting mecha uses magical power, they can't really use it.
The bigger monsters need like 100+ of the classical mecha to engage and kill. THey still use shit like big battering rams and such.

There's some points that I don't get too.
But it seems like it's all about feeling, voiceless incantations are based purely on this principle, but regular magic is subtley so.
If you talk about summoning an ice wall as a chant, the magic manifests in that way. However, from my understanding Rudeus has a deep scientific knowledge, that's why his affinity with Earth magic is pretty high, while healing is low (he was never a doctor)

I don't know what he meant either, but the characters are really fleshed out in MT. The main character isn't a Gary Stu (just OP) and has immense flaws. Each of the characters that are part of his harem have a place there and a motivation that makes sense (compared to how other works just seem to have characters like MC for no reason at all)

Rou kinda just steamrolls through everything, he doesn't develop as a person he just hops on a train with no breaks and rides to crazy overpowered town. He's a badass given the chance to become way more badass.
Rudi is a fat pathetic fuck that jumps on the chance to change his life mistakes and ends up inadvertently making himself superpowerful and popular. It's more about his attitude and determination to change with the background of having a high fantasy setting.
I love reading RE:Monster for the katharsis, he does what he wants and gets what he wants, but I actually like Rudi because it's fun to see someone mull over their inferiority complexes while being pretty awesome in their own right.
Deeper probably isn't the right word, one is about power plain and simple and the other is about a person changing themselves.

Attack magic can't be formed into a person, like filling a person's body with soil magic until they pop or some crazy shit. But you can smash them no problem from the outside.
Healing magic on the other hand, actually requires you to physically touch or be within touch-range of a person, since you are facilitating the healing of a person by directly channeling magical energy into their body for that express purpose.
Barrier magic is barriers, you can't do some kind of tou-ki stuff with it, because you need actual glyphed magic formations for it to work right.

The way Quagmire/Doronuma works, is by manipulating the outside of the ground with earth and water melded magic. Like, even if your bare feet were touching the ground, you could get mired, because he was manipulating it at the point of earth just under where the foot had contact. But he's not say.. trying to use something like earth lance to drill downward into the ground using the ground, because that however is affected by the magical properties BS. He would have to use an actual earth-sundering spell to do that kind of stuff.

Expanding on that however, I don't think MT is a master piece. For example I think the biggest issue in this novel is the existence of the Human God.
I mean it's quite clear the author uses him as a plot device to write himself out of corners. He is too much of a convenient plot device and that takes it away a bit. Although, I only read until Marriage Arc so the author can still change my mind by making the Human God the Last Boss and his actions make complete sense, but I doubt it. I'm hopeful though.
