How do I read the letters in manga? Is it similar to how I would read them in anime and visual novels? I'm trying to the concept down, but there's something different that just shuts down my brain.

When you watch anime, subtitles will appear at the bottom that translate whatever is being said, this goes to visual novels as well. However, when it comes to manga, such translations do not appear, so I'm wondering if maybe I'm reading it wrong.
