So what are you watching from before the year 2000 /a/?
I just finished Takarajima yesterday—fantastic adaptation of a timeless classic. I was really impressed by the series, especially its ending. I think it had an even greater impact seeing as I haven't read Treasure Island.
Going to get back to finishing up Fang of the Sun Dougram now, and then maybe start on some Leiji Matsumoto series, preferably Harlock or Galaxy Express 999.

I started watching the 1999 HxH anime. The budget is noticeably much smaller but I like the style of the characters and the backgrounds. The soundtrack is sometimes really fucking terrible, though.

Yeah, I can't personally attest to how close it is to the novel, though I've read that it's a fairly close adaption, but judging the series by its presentation, story, and characters, it's pretty fantastic.

I finished Lum the Forever recently, what a disappointment.
Tenchi Universe. i know it's it's own continuity, but after watching through the Ryo-Ohki OVA thrice my whole life, it feels kinda off. Washu especially. i appreciate kiyone & Miho-Washu though.

I downloaded that 66GB torrent of Macross from Nyaa after hearing the opening of it on youtube one day. I don't think there is an anime opening out there that is more majestic and grand that Macross' opening.
I'm trying to watch all of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's directorial works because I love his sense of sense of style, so far from what I've seen these are the best to least best (they were all enjoyable to watch though); Ninja Scroll > Cyber City Oedo > Wicked City > Goku Midnight Eye > Demon City Shinjuku
I've yet to see Neo Tokyo, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and Lensman. I don't think I'll bother with Highlander since it doesn't look like it was cel animated, and looks cheap.

Every episode seems to follow a pattern:
1. Get off train for no good reason.
2. Everyone attempts to rape/kill you. Because why not.
3. Haul ass back to train.
