2. Try to finish off a series that is missing files. Bringing ongoing series up-to-date would be fantastic.

The scanlators don't always list the vol, I don't see why it should be mandatory when all the chapters are numbered anyways. Mangaupdates shows the number of volumes but not the chapters which belong to them (would have been useful though).

Take a look at Yotsubato volume 10 on the FTP server for example. It matters because tank releases can have redraws etc, not just better scan quality.

Volumes 1-25 are from the mediafire anon and in very good quality, the rest is by a bunch of other groups and the last few volumes are in ridiculous resolution and uncleaned, so the filesize gets up to about 500MB per volume

Rips the images with a userscript. Descrambles the image with something I hacked together in C. The C is probably overkill since it descrambles the image without losing any quality. I could probably hack together something to just save the png which is like 2 or 3 times bigger.

Not him, and I'm no expert, but I can tell you a few things. First, anime gets dmca'd much more often than manga. Second, anime is heavier than anime. A lot more. And a page like that would get a lot of downloads. The badnwidth needed for something like that would be expensive as fuck (unless you made it as something for personal use, with only you and a few friends to use). In other words, it's not a good idea.
