XY episodes range from 7/10 to a 10/10, it's remarkably better than everything from Johto to Best Wishes and while it's still pokemon as it's always been, you can tell that there's actual attention being paid now.
Somehow it got a big budget and writers that give a fuck, and all the main characters are enjoyable. Ash is competent, his wins and losses are largely decided by strategy.
Jessie also figured out that wobbuffet is powerful as fuck, which is nice.

prior to this gen, Kyogre was considered the strongest pokemon because of its utility ability, bst, and typing that all complimented each other. with gen 6, there has been some speculation, but stat wise, mega mewtwo x/y is the strongest pokemon. among non legendaries, i would personally toss it between m-gengar and m-blaziken. i think when ORAS comes out though, kyogre will get 2stronk again.
