It's been the same deal since 3.
3 was a fantastic game. 4 was the same was Tropico 3 minus a hefty amount of content and a LOT of DLC.
I kept my eye on Tropico 5 for a long time but they just kept adding more DLC.
The series is shitty for mods, expensive for what they are, and have less replayability each iteration. I just can't do it anymore. I'd love it if Kalypso did a 180 and tried to make the best game possible instead of mercilessly exploiting the niche they've created but so far you just gotta accept that each iteration will be a little more expensive for a little less.

People are ALWAYS unhappy about religion, though. No matter how many churches or missions I build, religion happiness rarely goes over 15.

fancy restaurants have higher fun factors. cinemas really have no use, since you need electricity to use them, but might as well build fancy restaurants that can be augmented by fish docks.

I would probably just play 4. 1 is my favorite but 4 is basically the same thing with a few more features and better graphics. 5 was a step back.

The whole politics aspect was really well done in Tropico 3/4 but elections are really hard to lose so you don't notice how much detail is in it.

when i want a fast expansion across the island i built two or even three offices, jack up the pay and fire some workers in non essential industries so i can build really quickly and then demolish back to one office after the expansion

It's a really small thing, but I don't like how in 5 they removed the goods piling up at the docks. Sometimes it felt so good to watch a giant pile of exports disappear while your treasury skyrockets.
