Attacks tend to have cool down frames, so if you block it you normally have a frame advantage to do some damage in either try normal attacks or throws in that scenario as they shouldn't have enough time to try another normal

Personally, I found that one a little less irritating. It seems like his AI is more relaxed there, so he's not quite as devastating with his combos. It's also a best-of-three, and you're pretty much expected to use all three rounds, because the last round has you and him both in Synergy form for the full round.

Not everyone has to have Machamp tier damage to be good anon. He also gets his synergy burst charged very fast, obviously moves quickly putting pressure on zoners who don't want people in their faces and is tricky to fight because he has versatility in his moves. I just did the final Mewtwo fight, man. After you beat him, you get a cutscene of the Synergy stone breaking the Shadow one, and Mewtwo returns to normal, and whatsherface runs off and leaves Mewtwo with you.
And yeah, that burst is fucking deadly. At the start of the third round, he Synergized, then I did, and then right as I started my first attack he used his Burst.

Get off of the wall. Gardevoir is really good at keep away in Field Mode, and in Duel Mode she can be a powerhouse with Stored Power fully charged.
At least that's the way I play her. Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, and Stored Power are my bread and butter in Duel Mode, and if they're far enough away, Magical Leaf is pretty powerful.

Get good at counter dancing or whatever you call it. Starting a counter to block projectiles and canceling it with a dash once they're gone. They taught you about it in the tutorial.
Once you get close enough you can either let the counter rip or grab her if she starts blocking.
