I actually ended up shifting the description further into the text, for the very reason that different parts of the body (not writing about a snek, by the way) have different kinds of scales. The belly, palms, etc. would be a lot softer than the back, or the back of the hand. Kind of gunning for "rugged" at the moment, but it still doesn't feel right. Might have to dump a few more words on it just to get the feeling across.

Though I don't think it stops event-based ones like with Christy, not too sure. Continued losses to lizard girls don't account your lack of changes in the scenes.
