A slow start to the season doesn't mean he's not still the best catcher in baseball overall, just that he's not playing the best right now. Same thing goes with Kershaw and Arietta, obviously Kershaw is way better overall but other pitchers are also having amazing seasons that outdo his, if only slightly. Posey as MVP still could not sniff Mauer's numbers when he was MVP. Posey is a fine player, clearly one of the best of his generation but he got far too much hype around him.
