Play online. You naturally meet people in team based videogames. Some people added me on Dota 2 because I'm relatively chill (easy, since most people in Doto are angry chimps) and somewhat funny.

For instance, I was playing Contagion (a zombie game where you can play as a zombie once your character dies). I told the rest of the zombie team about some strategy. Nothing fancy.

Bam. One of them added me.

Don't tell them you're lonely or have no other friends. Just get enough of them and let the long-distance friendship grow to its potential.

But be aware that it's only that. That other guy/girl has irl friends and them come before you.
